MARIA GOODMAN, Eurotrash, Animal Abuser
Maria IS A BAD PERSON and she should never be allowed to own animals & should be in jail.
Maria Goodman (a.k.a.Maria Hodes, alias,Maria Rose Tudor) is an over-the-hill, unethical, liar, beggar & thief. She moved to Florida from England in 2004
She had a “kennel” she called Akhanubis Sighthounds. She portrayed herself as dedicated breeder of 30+ years of Ibizan Hounds, Pharaoh Hounds, Sloughi, Whippets…
Here is an example of her actions whilst in the U.K.
UK Rescue Sloughi Story
Early in 2002 the RSPCA were called to some outbuildings just outside of Bath. Inside 32 dogs were found in appalling conditions, 21 of which were Sloughis. These Sloughis were bred and kept by Sue Harper and Rodney Reed. Nothing was really known about what happened publicly until on September 20 2002, when Maria Goodman (then Secretary of the UK Sloughi Club, now ASLA) made comments on an internet list. She stated that she had photos of the dogs when they were taken and that they were not in the terrible state that was reported on by the RSPCA, and that although the premises could have been kept cleaner – the dogs were not beaten or starved.
These dogs that Maria Goodman claimed were not in a terrible state were kept in sheds piled high with their own excrement. Some of the dogs were kept in crates stacked on top of each other, so caked in their own faeces that the Inspectors had trouble opening the doors of the crates to remove them. Three of the older dogs were so deformed from being continuously crated that they had to be euthanized immediately. All of the dogs were suffering with skin and ear infections, they were all covered in their own faeces and extremely underweight.
Unfortunately Maria came to the states with a job of all things of running a kennel along with her adult son, Peter Goodman. And 2 husbands, Les Goodman quickly followed by Steven Hodes. She brought some dogs from the U.K. But Soon she was obtaining dogs from North American breeders, painting herself as caring with a nice kennel, exercise areas, endless pool, all the bells and whistles smoke/mirrors. She bought some dogs, some she never did pay for. She sold some of her own breeding that were found to have serious health problems & refused to refund or replace as she promised.
In 2009 Maria’s health & job performance deteriorated and she was fired & given notice to vacate (as she lived on kennel property). What did she do? Did she attempt to rehome the dogs she acquired, call breeders, rescue, anything? NO!
She picked a few “keepers” then Spitefully, she put 22 hounds into the kennel building, plugged the drains, and locked them in like unwanted “trash”. Then she got in a car and drove away. The dogs left were trapped in a terribly hot unventilated building, with no electricity, no food or clean water (power got turned off), the kennel was overrun with rats, roaches & ticks. Maria left no contact numbers, no info on discarded dogs. Just a note saying the kennel and its “contents” were now the property of property owner. The “contents” as she coldly called them, were 22 terrified, starving & ailing creatures left to die slowly. When they were discovered, The horrified owner called all the various breed club’s rescue people. People from coast to coast started getting down to Florida to save these dogs. Sloughi rescue came, Ibizan Hound rescue came, Pharaoh Hound rescue came. The reports were terrible, much like the conditions Maria condoned in England. The poor dogs were stuck in excrement, covered with ticks & skin sores. Dogs severely underweight (10-15 lbs underweight- a lot on a sighthound). Toenails so overgrown, walking on feet was impossible. Many had painful infections or untreated injuries. It was grossly evident that these animals discarded like trash were neglected for months leading up to their abandonment.
Maria Goodman, Akhanubis should have been shown on T.V.’s Animal Cops getting her fat ass arrested. The immediate concern was to get the dogs out and cared for FAST. Most were rescued within days of this story breaking. The dogs got rescued & most are now slowly healing, physically & mentally. Some are still in Foster care looking for permanent homes. Thousands of dollars have been spent by many people cleaning up Maria Goodman’s wicked mess. Meanwhile, Maria slipped away and went into hiding like the vermin she is. Bringing about 6 dogs with her, presuming to start over somewhere else yet again. This should never happen!
She should be in jail, she certainly broke FL laws, AKC rules and is completely unethical. Please be on the lookout for this woman last known to be in the Bradenton/Sarasota, FL area. She claims to be an explosive detecting dog trainer, dog show handler, cheetah expert, and who knows what else. She is a con artist. Beware of Maria Goodman- Akh Anubis Kennels and her cohorts, Peter Goodman, Elisabeth Griffith-Goodman, Leslie Goodman, Steven Hodes.

What is happening to Joyce St Giermaine? If those dogs lived on her properly I dont believe for a minute she hadnt seen how they were being kept. Those supporters of Goodman should all be held accountable for this horrifying mess.

It’s about time someone exposed this vile woman. Too long did she have her supporters in the UK who wouldnt have a word said against her, too long did she have her supporters at ASLA who not only supported her but ignored evidence of her lies and mistreatment leaving her on their board of directors (till it appeared in the public domain at which point they silently removed her – have to put that in before their Legal Eagle threatens me with yet more legal action for simply telling the truth!), too long has she been able to get away with abhorrent cruelty to dogs. It has to stop now, people have to wake up to what this woman is capable of and stop supporting the cruelty. Too many dogs have suffered because of her surrounding herself with like minded individuals who believe that ego comes before welfare. Enough already!

Thats what I like to see people who stand up for what is right!
Unfortunately this seems to be what happens, they are all friendly with this woman and buy dogs off her to keep her making money and then when the s***t hits the fan they suddenly dont want to be involved!
This makes people like that just about as guilty as her!!!!!!!!!

So much about this whole situation is just so sad & so wrong. But I can tell you about my first hand experience with Maria and the Florida rescue.
I’ll start from the beginning. I was a breeder of Ibizan Hounds, under the “Eden” prefix, my last name was Bonner then. I had started corresponding with Maria while she was still in England. She came off as charming & knowledgeable. In 2004 I had a large litter of Ibizan puppies. I sent her a photo taken shortly after birth, eyes shut really just little guinea pigs at that point. Maria wrote back asking if she could PLEASE buy the red bitch. Maria said they had a connection & she felt it was the soul of her recently passed “Lark”. We had puppy named the girl “Shamrock” because of her lucky third eye mark. Maria sent us photos of the place she had moved to in Florida, photos showed large green yards, agility course, swimming pool for dogs. As the puppies grew Shammy was a knockout, in all ways. I sent Shammy to Florida in Nov. 2004 at 8 weeks. Shammy went on to a highly successful show career winning Euknuba, Westminster and was #1 Ibizan in 2006. Lots of people I trusted told me they had seen Shammy being specialed & that she looked in great condition & was happy I bred Shammy’s mother again and she had puppies March 2006. There was a boy puppy that reminded me of Shammy. Maria saw a video of him, and asked to buy him. After doing so well with Shammy, I assumed he would be treated the same way so Maria bought him at 8 weeks old. He flew to Florida and she named him “Paddy”. After a few months we still had one little girl we were willing to place. Maria asked for her thought it would be good to have the 2 puppies together. So Cushla flew to Florida at about 5 months old.
Never in these all these times did Maria bring up Joyce or that the dogs welfare depended on anyone other than herself. Only Maria was listed as owner on Paddy & Cushla.
Then I heard Maria was going through an unpleasant divorce and was having health problems. I wrote her a letter sympathizing as I have been through both myself. I asked her to call me if she needed help with the dogs, both myself and the stud dogs owner were willing to get dogs back.
Maria did not respond. I assumed things were going as normal down there. When I moved to my new house in Oct. 2008, I again asked to buy back the dogs. Again no answer.
Imagine my horror when I got a call on Oct.22, 2009 telling me Maria locked 20 dogs into kennel building and disappeared. The reports from the first people in were terrible, the photos that followed confirmed, these dogs were living in filth & had been neglected for months. How they were alive I have no idea. I spoke with Joyce, she was helpful and told me she believed Paddy & Cushla were there but Shammy and her pups were not. Joyce said she would care for them until we got there. We dropped everything & left Minnesota on October 26 and drove 1800 miles in monsoon rains and arrived at the kennel & Maria’s former residence on Oct. 28. There were people working there trying to deal with the filth, kennels had been washed out but the stench was still heavy in the air. I quickly recognized Paddy & Cushla and got them into the van where clean bedding & fresh water waited. We had room for one more so we took “Shay” a dog Maria bred. The dogs drank and drank like they seen clean water. All smelled awful despite being bathed. They had old flea collars embedded which we cut off. They seemed happy but frightened (understandable). We hustled home through more monsoon rains & dropped Shay off in Iowa. We got home middle of the night Oct. 30 after 3,500 miles driven. We were lucky the next several days were warm for MN. The dogs loved being outside, and both drank and drank and drank. Cushla was so emaciated & weak, she needed help to stand for some days. She is 25-1/4 tall. She weighed 26 pounds, she had an infected rat bite on her chest, she had severe ear infections. Paddy was a walking skeleton, just a spine when looked down on. He had several infected bald patches. Both dogs were on antibiotics for 45 days. Both dogs were not used to being in a house or socialized.
Paddy and Cushla are in good places where they loved and cared for and their physical health has improved greatly. Their emotional wounds are taking longer but progress is being made and their confidence comes back and they can be Ibizans again.
Lastly, I’d like say this should have neve happened. Maria could have made one phone call to IHCUS, myself or Lu Capritta and help would have been given without the dogs starving and suffering. I still worry so much about Shammy and the pups Maria kept. Where are they? Who feeds them know? What kind of life do they have? Maria you should provide some evidence or give her back to me.

A fat drunk and a pathological liar. Maybe we can revoke her green card and send her back to that rock she crawled out from under over seas.
