It’s about time someone exposed this vile woman. Too long did she have her supporters in the UK who wouldnt have a word said against her, too long did she have her supporters at ASLA who not only supported her but ignored evidence of her lies and mistreatment leaving her on their board of directors (till it appeared in the public domain at which point they silently removed her – have to put that in before their Legal Eagle threatens me with yet more legal action for simply telling the truth!), too long has she been able to get away with abhorrent cruelty to dogs. It has to stop now, people have to wake up to what this woman is capable of and stop supporting the cruelty. Too many dogs have suffered because of her surrounding herself with like minded individuals who believe that ego comes before welfare. Enough already!
The person who started this blog is full of crap, weren’t you the one she REFUSED to let have a puppy years ago when you met her at Crufts and you gunned for her ever since? She once showed me the crap you wrote way back when.
Yes, she knew the people in all of your reports, and tried to help Jacky Saunders, but could not because of show dog politics.
Also she was NOT fired from her job, they didn’t pay her for two years, and she was hospitalized with her third heart attack she had no access to the dogs at the kennel after that.
Oh Joyce St.Germaine who owned the kennels? She has SIXTY plus dogs, she is a collector, and she was responsible for the dogs, married to a millionaire I might add , believe he was something to do with the Montessori Foundation, and the ones went to rescue..she put them there. andwhen she thought she had a buyer for the kennel never even tried to contact Maria once she thought she was out of the way and if fact was hoping she was in England so she didn’t have to worry about being sued!.None of you people know Maria and you go on the stupid comments of Caroline who met her ONCE almost eight years ago!!

She had many top winning dogs, and funny how ALL the people visited the kennel when she had her dogs there never once said there were dogs in a bad way Not true some reported some very negative visits, some of the top handlers and breeders stayed there, this is bullshit from a sad person who didn’t get her own way, and likes to build up her own ego..

Why would someone who did nothing wrong go into hiding like this?
The truths are:
Maria left 20+ dogs in squalid confinement & drove off.
She did not leave any way to contact her.
She made no attempt to get the dogs.
Maria made no attempt to get the dogs she didn’t want back to breeders/co-owners or foster homes.
Maria said dogs that were there belonged to St.Germaine.THIS IS A FLAT OUT LIE.
Her reputation as a show person, hell as a Dog Person is FOREVER ruined because MARIA CHOSE TO WATCH THE DOGS SUFFER FOR MONTHS RATHER THAN GET THEM TO SAFE PLACES.
OK firstly I did not write this blog. Anything that I have written about Maria Goodman or anyone else that matter I make it clear that I have written it. If I had been as cowardly as some I would have done the whole Sloughi Website anonymously. Not my style. So most of your post directed at me is irrelevant, I didnt write any of it.
Secondly I never asked Maria or anyone else for a puppy. This is the same story she pedals out all the time because she cant grasp the fact that my reason for any of the Sloughi rescue stuff has been because I care about those dogs, plain and simple. Who the hell would do THAT much work to discredit someone if it had been as simple as being denied one of her dubiously bred Sloughis. Why wouldnt I have just gone to another breeder? The fact that she cant understand this highlights why she shouldnt have dogs in my opinion. If it is so alien to her that someone should care so much about welfare, she should be banned from breeding or owning dogs again.
I asked her at Discover Dogs around 10 years ago if she recognised my dog as I thought he may be a Sloughi. I showed her photos and she told me that he was a smooth Saluki. Then some years later when I was looking at information regarding her involvement with Jacky Saunders I saw that she actually had my dog’s sister. In fact I have a video of my dog at a show with Jacky Saunders that Maria also attended. My dog ended up in rescue where I adopted him. She denied knowing him and claimed he was a smooth Saluki. Yet she’d been at a show with him and owned his sister. He also ended up in rescue in the area which she lived at that time. Whether that had anything to do with her trying to make out he was something that he wasnt I dont know. I do know that he was starved, beaten with cigarette burns on him though.
I may have met Maria only a couple of times but have enough evidence of the person she is which can be seen here http://www.sloughi-rescue.org/ukrescuesloughistory.htm As you can see it is all backed up with concrete evidence.
I actually made sure what I said on my comments above to be factual and true, because I’ve had veiled threats of legal action before from Maria and ASLA. Which is why everything I post here and on my website is factual. If it’s all rubbish why is everything still sitting in the public domain. Why haven’t these people taken steps to take my ‘reports’ off-line? Because it’s all true. I was referring to my comments on the blog, not the blog itself. Which as I say I did not write.
Your final paragraph makes me wonder if you are Maria herself. I know very few people now who would refer to her as ‘a great show person’. This blog has certainly done the rounds, and yet you are the only person so far to stick up for her. And it certainly sounds like her style of writing. A bit like the supposed email to a sighthound list from her brother whining about how none of this was her fault, it was all St Germaine. Which all sounded very much like her too!
I dont hide behind blogs or anything else for that matter. This blog was not my work although I’m pleased that someone else is wanting to expose this woman for what she really is. Anything I know about her is on my website. In the main I have no idea what happened in Florida. She was a continent away so how would I know what happened over there? I have nothing to do with her or her Sloughi supporters at ASLA and I dont know anyone else in her other breeds to speak to.
Nice try at deflecting the situation onto me though! Maria has tried that many times with the same sad old nonsense. I wasnt the person who left all those dogs in a pitiful condition. This is about her blatant disregard for welfare. Both her and St Germaine should be held accountable for what happened to those dogs. Whether that happens or not remains to be seen.

Not a huge surprise! She’s the only person I know that would sing her own praises as she does!

The kennels were shit and Maria told Joyce many times to fix them to no avail, Joyce didn’t own any of the dogs, bullshit, she did.
The show people didn’t like Maria because she was successful and many of them asked for puppies, didn’t like she had the number one Ibizan when she was only over here five minutes.
You too are sick puppies, hey take a trip over to SR 64 where Joyce lives or the new Amys’ Bed Bath and Biscuit maybe they actually spent money on the joint now!!

Well..Hello Again MARIA! Since both comments (Patsi Renard & Ann Harlow) came from reidagee.com. The law office Maria Goodman works at I think the writing is on the wall and Maria is the only person who would even try to defend such cruelty. I wonder if people at her work are aware she is using their names? Or are they completely fictional?
So Maria had three heart attacks, there were 2 other adults there, her son & her husband. Yet no one gave even MINIMUM care to the dogs. Why couldn’t you call for help??
Why would someone who took there dog to a kennels know all that, not very professional? I wouldnt leave my dog at a kennel where I knew the manager had no money to feed her own dogs with let alone mine while it was there!
I thought Maria was her handler so obviously she would have paid her then! Being such an experienced dog person, she should have known when accepting her job that the kennels were sh**t and unmanagable! And another point no offence but I wouldnt send my dog to a kennels that were in your word, sh**t!
If ‘Joyce’ did own some of the dogs and she was such an awful person who never paid Maria then why did she give her dogs to own in partnership? You wouldnt give the rights of a dog away to someone who owed you money would you? Let alone go on to breed from them….
Because ‘birds of a feather flock together’. Maria found people in the US who had as little regard for welfare as she did and while she got on well with Joyce that was all fine. Now they have fallen out no doubt they are both blaming each other claiming that they are the innocent injured party in this. Nothing to do with the dogs, just sniping at each other. On Maria’s website she made many mention initially of what a great life she had out there with her new friend Joyce. No mention of not getting paid. No mention of dogs suffering under Joyce’s care.
God knows what happened to the dogs they had there that havnt been found. The two Sloughis that didnt appear, when all these other dogs were taken were aged 10 and 5. According to the ASLA website, when they asked what happened to these two dogs Joyce said ‘she thought they died the previous year’. Thought they died? They lived on her property? How would she not know what happened to those dogs? Whether ASLA have followed up on that I dont know, I’m sure in their shoes I would not be happy with such a vague explanation but as they have supported her in the past for this type of thing maybe it is not of interest to them, however I shudder to think what really happened to those dogs. Did they just die in squalor from horrendous neglect?
Dogs that Maria owned in the UK mysteriously vanished when she moved to the US. She claims she rehomed them all but refused to say where to. None of these dogs have ever surfaced. She also has lost dogs at young ages, dogs that have no purpose for her anymore. She claims they are pts through ill health but knowing what healthy siblings at least 2 of her dogs had, I find it hard to believe that these dogs just suddenly died aged 5 at a point when litters were no longer wanted from them, and their show career was doing nothing. It’s criminal what she has been allowed to get away with, I really hope that neither her or Joyce are allowed to do this again.
OK, *Patsi* let’s for a moment assume what you say is true. If Joyce kept the kennels in such an appalling state and the dogs were in such poor condition (which has been confirmed by those who took them away – this wasnt a few days of hardship, these dogs had all the signs of long-term neglect), why did Maria (who apparently is such a saint and would not dream of keeping her dogs like this), not report it? Why stay on at that property? Why not get in the authorities to take the dogs away? If Joyce never paid her it would hardly be any loss to her to take this action, she had nothing to lose. So why did she not do something for these dogs? Any credible suggestions on that?
Dont tell me that bad karma is coming my way. I’ve done nothing but expose this woman and the lies she has told over in the UK. Giving these dogs a voice when Goodman and her ilk treat them like disposable commodities. Same deal in fact as what you are saying here. She told me on a list before we really *knew* each other that the RSPCA had made something out of nothing in respect to the breeders who had their dogs taken in 2002 as she’d seen them herself. These dogs who were kept in filthy squalid sheds, some top to tail in sheds piled high with their own muck, 3 of whom were so deformed at being kept that way they had to be euthanased. I assume at the time she stated this she had no idea that eventually this would all be made so public. She then still gave a dog to the co-breeder and let him suffer the same fate as the dogs before him (and sire yet more puppies into this situation). Any suggestions as to why she would do that?
Every time she is the innocent party, every time the sh*t hits the fan she supposedly has another heart attack (she is a miracle of modern science btw, the amount of heart attacks she seems to have had…), and people are cruel to expose what she has been up to yet again when she is at death’s door.
None of it washes with me or most of the people who have the misfortune to come into contact with this woman. Patsi, Ann, if you have been to Maria’s place and seen her dogs in the state they must have been in, then you too are to blame for not blowing the whistle on this. But as you are yet two more names that no-one has ever heard of and coincidentally emailing from the same source as Maria herself, forgive me for not taking anything you say too seriously.
As I said before, if well known, well RESPECTED members of the dog world want to post their support for Maria here I’d be interested to hear what they have to say. I’d also be surprised that anyone would put their neck on the line for her yet again but nevertheless if people are of the opinion that Maria is the victim in this I’d like to hear why that is.

As someone said to me recently “never explain your friends don’t need it and your enemies won’t believe it” by the way all the attorney already has seen this. And its not about the dogs its about your holier than thou attitudes.

So say what you will I have had to live with it and always will for the trust I placed in others which was misguided so carry on with your blog it makes you happy and I will never understand people that when help was asked none was given.
The only people who screwed the dogs over were the people looking after them or not as the case may be! People shouldn’t blame others for their actions! I was one of the people helping in the welfare of some of the dogs left and think this is all so shameful.

I would never pray bad luck on people so dont know why someone would say that, sometimes people just want answers and honesty but obviously they are never going to get that from you. From what I have seen alot of people put their trust (and money) in you and you have done anything but be straight with them.If help is ever wanted it is always given where animals are concerned, everyone else has cleared up your mess. This has all been very disappointing.
It is interesting that you claim that you were not paid for 2 years and yet can afford health care for yet another heart attack plus pay for an attorney! You’ve trotted that old rubbish out before, it doesnt work. Threatening legal action only works when you threaten people who are telling lies about you. Nobody here is telling lies, only you.
Furthermore, not once have you displayed any emotion or empathy for the dogs you claim were neglected by Joyce. Not once. Just trying to fight your way out of a corner by accusing everyone else of wrong doing. In fact whenever your association with these type of people is exposed you NEVER mention the dogs, it’s always accusations left right and centre at everyone else, trying to pass the buck. It never dawns on you to show any empathy for what these dogs go through – that in itself speaks volumes about the sort of person you are.
I admit I only remember the Sloughis you had, I dont know about your other breeds. These 4 dogs were yours. Are you going to deny that Mrs Moreau-Sipiere gave you 3 of those dogs? Are you going to deny that Sandra Munroe gave you a dog (while you were still in the UK in fact)? These 4 dogs were yours! What happened to Ullan and Bond? Bond was only 5 years old. All his siblings are fit and healthy dogs, did he die of neglect? Given that Ullan was 10 I guess with gross neglect he could have passed away. Care to shed any light on those 2 particular dogs? Care to deny that any of these were your dogs? Or will you give your usual sullen reply when questioned about dogs of yours that mysteriously vanish – it’s nobody else’s business but yours.
I may even have a shred of respect for you if you would even hold your hands up and take responsibility for some of this mess. I can accept that both you and Joyce were to blame, some of these dogs were yours, some were hers, some were jointly owned. The fact still remains that you both neglected these dogs over a long period of time, it shows no compassion for these dogs, and no attachment either. These dogs all have a soul, they are all individuals. They are not disposable commodities.
You may have been lied to and cheated, but it is only what you do to others, and in fact here too. Brazen lies about your involvement in this. I had a very bad time, you don’t think I know how it looks?? As for the Saunders case, I was NOTHING to do with them it was actually Sue Harper, I only advised and was told to keep out of it, and the dogs I saw were NOT in bad condition. Yes she did have a dog from me, but bear this in mind, other people in the UK had dogs from her too and saw nothing untoward.
I had never been to the place you described only the kennels at her home..nor had anyone it seems.
Oh, but guess what, was she convicted? No, in fact the RSPCA gave dogs back to her!
Onto more recent events, yes it is a tragic situation, do you think I really have no feeling for any of the animals..give it time to see when this crops up again. I don’t own thirty plus dogs, but I know someone who does.
As for ill health, and asking for help, oh I asked, oh but was told that it was going to be dealt with time and time again.
Then shut out of the situation, rich people do that..
The dogs are not guilty, they are unfortunately the victims of a situation that did get out of control, and it took that for people to get up and do something? Believe me…that’s what it took.
I am not making excuses for this, just stating facts which none of you know, because none of you lived it.
Do you know how it feels to ask someone for help and they tell you they can’t afford it when they own five cars, three houses?? And then threaten you with immigration! Come on, Joyce is NOT what she seems…anyway, any amount of me saying this makes no difference.
I am glad the dogs came out of the situation they are in, but you all forget all the rescue work I did when I was able, dogs out of various situations, God only knows I never thought I would be in this situation..ever!
As for Craigs question, no I won’t breed again, I cannot ever justify bringing more puppies into this world, nor would I want to. I see that many of the Ibizan people are breeding this year, at least fifteen or sixteen litters in a minority breed, that is their choice, nobody can stop that happening, but only hope that people can commit to seventeen years for each dog and nothing changes.
So, no I am not making excuses, I understand people are angry, upset, and I can’t turn back the clock.
But, again, none of you were there, you don’t know what happened, and certainly are just going to call me whatever you want, go ahead, it changes nothing…

In closing I would like to say that if people do persist in what has now become harassment to me or any of my family, I will have to take matters further, as for affording an attorney, one of my puppy owners is one, and is very happy to help. As for health care, I have to pay that weekly, which will take years.
I hope this never ever happens to anyone, and I do believe that you are indeed Animal advocates and do it for the love of the animals, despite of how you have painted me, I do understand why you feel this way.

The problem is you tell so many lies Maria that you are forever contradicting yourself. Sue Harper was convicted and banned for life from keeping animals. Jacky Saunders was convicted of 27 counts of cruelty and neglect against her dogs in 2006 and out of the 19 dogs taken then (including the dog you gave her, which you told lies about too!), the court let her keep two dogs. Why they did that is beyond me but she was convicted nevertheless.
And you still didnt tell me about the Sloughis you had in the US. Always avoiding the harder direct questions. They were YOUR dogs, what happened to Bond and Ullan? How did they die? Why was no-one told about this. To be fair I am only assuming that Mrs Moreau-Sipiere was not told about Ullan as the ASLA website says they asked what had happened to him. I know that Mrs Munroe had no idea that Bond had passed away as I told her myself (without going into any detail about the rest of this stuff as I thought it would be too upsetting for her). Given that Mrs Moreau-Sipiere and Mrs Munroe were both good friends of yours at one time, that they both supported you – why did you not tell them that the dogs they had entrusted to you had died? You were publicly furious a couple of years ago when one of your own bred dogs died with someone else and you were not informed, said that it was discourteous not to let you know about this. Why did that not apply with dogs that you owned that were bred by others?
Saying you care about these dogs after being prompted sounds empty. You wouldnt have needed prompting if they meant anything to you.
I dont know Joyce St Giermaine. However the little I do know about this I would think she is also to blame and would hope that whoever started this blog and anyone else involved with this rescue operation would do what they can to ensure that she never breeds again either. Both of you are a disgrace to the dog breeding world. Just because you claim she owns more dogs than you do does not alter the fact that your dogs were also seriously neglected, you cant hide that fact when the rescue people have had to step in and seen the state these poor dogs were in. Whine, lie and blame others as you always do when cornered, I just hope that for once you are not lying about being finished with breeding. Hopefully enough people know enough about you now both in the US and the UK that they will not be stupid enough to get involved with you or Mrs Giermaine again.
To the person who started this blog, I hope you are able to get somewhere with exposing Mrs Giermaine too (and also finding out if she still has other dogs elsewhere that are being neglected). Not sure how or where you would get that information from and am not sure how your welfare organisations operate in cases like this (our RSPCA are exceedingly ineffectual most of the time), hopefully you or anyone else following this can do something positive in this instance.
Maria, I believe you should have ZERO dogs. There are still dogs suffering from what you did to them. There are 3 Ibizans in foster homes awaiting adoption. All 3 are from YOUR breeding. There is also still a Pharaoh waiting.
As far as Joyce St. Germaine, all I really know is she was suspended from AKC for record keeping issues (BTW, this includes Maria’s Shammy litter, there was insufficient records and AKC may revoke registration of the Shammy puppies due to paperwork issues, and the fact Maria disappeared).The AKC Rep. made no mention of number of dogs on Joyce’s property or quality of care.
I just want to clarify a mistake I made in the above post. The two dogs taken by ASLA were not both bred by Moreau-Sipiere, one was bred by her, the other an Intissars dog. Not that it makes much of a difference in the grand scale of things but I prefer to keep my posts accurate.
In response to Caroline Mathews RE: Joyce St Germaine. I think you are way out of line making accusations about Joyce. I have personally been to her home and seen all of her wonderfully taken care of dogs. She does not have very many dogs at all. She takes outstanding care of her animals. This can be verified by the local animal control that inspected her home and facilities and ALL the animals and she passed with flying colors. Joyce is NOT a collector. I know what a collector is and have been involved with rescuing pure bred dogs from collectors via National Breed Rescue. I have also seen the tremendous amount of veterinary bills that Joyce St Germaine incurred on RESCUING all the dogs that Maria Goodman ABANDONED, and all the bills for all the damage and repairs and clean up for the facility that Maria Goodman was entrusted to live at and run a business from. The amount is in the 10′s of thousands of dollars. I am finding it difficult to believe, that IF someone IS truly IN CRISIS, like Maria has claimed, that she herself did not call upon the dog community, friends, rescue organizations, or anyone, etc to intervene on behalf of the dogs. No, she did nothing. Maria comes on here like the pathetic sad sack she is expecting everyone to believe her vitriol. Maria is nothing more than a colenterate and a user and abuser. Maria Goodman and ilk, ABANDONED ALL THESE ANIMALS. Maria has been evading Joyce St Germaine, and Maria IS the person that called AKC on her, and Maria is the one that neglected ALL these dogs to the point of abuse.
If Maria Goodman or whatever she decides to call herself attempts at reinventing herself, well, there are too many people that know who she is and we are all waiting for Maria to show her face.
I know Maria Goodman, and I know Joyce St Germaine. I can tell you that Joyce is not the evil person. It is Maria Goodman or whatever her new name is.
Let me also state, that Joyce St Germaine has cleared up all issues with AKC and her personal home, facilities, and animals have been inspected by both AKC and Animal Control. Joyce’s creatures, facilities, and home passed with flying colors. So Caroline Mathews, you need to get a grip and only state facts to which you have first hand knowlegde of. There were many rescue organizations called in by Joyce and many people involved in the rescues of these dogs that MARIA GOODMAN abandoned and left in filth, disease, emaciation, and dehydration and left to die. Maria did not even leave a single identifying piece of information on any of the dogs she abandoned. On paper Joyce may have been a co-owner or co-breeder, but, was not into these dogs, it was all Maria. Joyce could not identify most of the dogs that Maria abandoned. It was Joyce St Germaine that rescued all these abandoned dogs and at her own expense paid for all these dogs immediate veterinary care. It was Joyce that paid for all the repairs and clean up to her kennel facility that Maria Goodman and ilk trashed and destroyed. It is so sad to see how these dogs suffered at the hands of Maria Goodman, and how so many people had to come and clean up the mess left behind by Maria Goodman and ilk. And yes, we know that Maria is packing a gun. We know that she is a danger to the people who she knows that know the truth about her. I guess you werent expecting someone to come on and tell it like it is.
Hey Lois, I dont know who you are, you could be Joyce herself – something Maria has already tried and failed at on this blog. I agree with everything you say about Maria Goodman, it’s a shame she seems to con everyone she comes across into thinking she’s anything but, as you say, a parasite.
However if Joyce is the person you portray please tell me this one thing. How did those dogs, who lived on Joyce’s property, get into such a horrendous condition due to neglect, without Joyce being aware of this?

Do you expect everyone to believe that ending on that note everyone believes now that Joyce is a saint. You have not even put your surname so we can identify who you are. I think alot of people who have read up on this will understand that both women are at fault here. Regardless of their petty squabbling and denials that these dogs didnt belong to either of them, the facts remain that both women lived at this property. Both women are therefore accountable for the horrendous neglect these dogs suffered. Even if people were to believe for one minute that this was all down to Maria, what stopped Joyce from phoning the authorities/rescues and asking them to take the dogs away before it got to this point? I am certainly not sticking up for Maria here, however I do believe that given the facts stated by people who have sorted out this mess, and the fact that people seem to know that some of these dogs were in joint ownership, BOTH women should never be allowed to breed or own dogs again.
Let me tell you, the same shit happened here in the UK with the Sloughi breeder friends of Maria. One owned up to the abuse and neglect of 30 odd Sloughis, convicted and banned. While her breeding partner took some of the dogs elsewhere and continued as before till the authorities here realised she still had 20 dogs in the same condition. People who breed together and co-own dogs ESPECIALLY on the same property cant fail to see how dogs are being kept.
Dont tell me to get a grip. I can see what has happened here, as can many other people. If you want to defend these people then go right ahead. In fact if you want to defend these type of people I’d question your suitability as an owner/breeder too.

A very lovely and well respected AKC licensed judge, Keke Kahn, wrote a compelling letter to US imigration on behalf of Maria Goodman for MARIA to obtain her green card. At this time, many of us are considering writing compelling letters to US immigration to have Maria Goodman’s green card revoked and deem her an illegal citizen who needs to be shipped back to Europe. We dont want her kind here sucking from the teats of unsuspecting good-hearted, well- meaning people. MARIA GOODMAN has taken advantage of anyone she can and has lied to get what she thinks she deserves. How MARIA GOODMAN can state the dog world screwed her, is absolutely amazing. IF MARIA GOODMAN would have asked for HELP from just about anyone, we would have helped her with the dogs for sure. She suckered Keke Kahn into writing a letter on her behalf to obtain a green card, but, did not contact Keke Kahn to secure the safety or well-being of the dogs. From the photo posted on here, for someone who has suffered 3 heart attacks, she looks pretty darn healthy. How many dogs did Joyce St Germaine allow her to co-own and co-breed for the sole purpose of piloting Maria Goodman to become an AKC licensed judge? Less than 2 years ago, MARIA GOODMAN signed on to several of Joyce’s dogs. Does that sound like Joyce screwing MARIA? Who has refused to sign off those pups registrations from the resulting litters that Joyce had in the attempt to screw Joyce, even when the AKC papers were left at MARIA GOODMAN’s hairdresser for her to sign off just recently? It is MARIA GOODMAN screwing Joyce. So since Joyce permitted MARIA GOODMAN to sign onto several dogs in the past 2 years, it would not appear to be that there was a non-working relationship in which MARIA GOODMAN was not being paid or being castigated or being screwed over. I have seen the electric bills that were paid by Joyce St Germaine for the place in which MARIA GOODMAN and ilk were living. In return, MARIA and ilk trashed and destroyed the house, the kennels and ruined the business. And most disturbing of all, ABANDONED 21 innocent dogs to just die in piles of feces, urine, covered in parasites, no food, no water, no identification, no AKC papers, no medical records, not a single thing. MARIA GOODMAN and ilk were seen driving off in a rental moving van but, she did not call anyone to come get the dogs, or notify anyone she was leaving, and instead left some note that stated she was handing over responsibility of the dogs to Joyce St Germaine and for her to do with them what she wants. Joyce did what she needed to do. The dogs were in deplorable condition and she sought immediate veterinary help and assistance from the different breed rescues. Yes, Joyce could have contacted a/c but they would have taken the dogs and euthanized all of them. Joyce gave them a second chance at life and paid dearly for it emotionally, financially and has been rumored about like she is the one that committed this atrocity. MARIA GOODMAN is a parasite who needs to have her green card revoked and kicked back to Europe, IMO.
Let me just say that I have been to Joyce’s property plenty of times, the first of which I did not know her in the least or anything about her, and that there was abosolutely nothing wrong. Parasite free, happy dogs- if anything, there were a number that were a little on the tubby side. Clean, no waste around, etc. I have seen every dog she owns and been in every room in her home and her whole yard and kennel. She does NOT own 30 dogs- not even close. Her dogs are beautiful and healthy and they sure are not starving eating their raw diet. I have seen the feeding room and all! Like I said if anything some are a bit on the well-padded side, though not nearly as fat as Maria. Joyce has 10-12 year old dogs with the teeth of a 6 month old puppy!!! So you people who know nothing better not slander. Joyce did not even live on the same property at the time Maria did this, and she took responsibility for these dogs and SAVED THEIR LIVES!

Maybe Maria should be a little gracious and sign off on all the dogs, some of whom are companions no doubt. Why doesn’t she? Maybe because she’s a trashy spiteful fat old hag! You do know that people who keep these dogs in terrible conditions dont let you see the dogs that are kept that way dont you?! People who take dogs into the show ring are not going to neglect the dogs in the way the dogs that were taken from this property. However breed enough dogs, those that are not sold or good enough to show will not get the sort of care you describe from people who have no regard for animal welfare.
I hope she is not sent back here to the UK. Although to be honest wherever she ends up she will still be able to own and breed dogs if she wants. That in itself is a crime, regardless of her location.
It is my understanding that Maria and Joyce lived at different addresses; although Joyce & her husband owned the kennel & home where Maria lived. I have idea how often the 2 saw each other. I think it is probable the 2 women kept their own groups of dogs at each property adding each others name when they thought useful. I’ve never heard the exact arrangement they made when Maria moved to the US.
If you co-owned dogs with someone, regardless of whether you lived on the same property or not, would you not be keeping a vigilant eye on their wellbeing? I know I would.
I have seen Joyce’s pet dogs- spayed and neutered pets, and dogs that are TEN years old. They are not shown. Many of them cannot be shown because that twat Maria won’t sign off of them. So they are pets.
Joyce just spent god only knows to have a dog with one testicle neutered and the whole nine yards before giving the dog away to a loving pet home. Yeah, that sure sounds like someone who doesn’t give a shit about anything that is not a show dog, right? I have been all over her place. Where is she supposedly hiding these neglected dogs? Joyce didn’t live on the property at the time that Maria did this, and Maria was trusted and hired to run it! I’m just a pet lover, but I do know what a fat and happy dog looks like, and what a starved one looks like. The first time I showed up there was six months ago and there was NOTHING wrong. I saw the horses, the dogs, and two really cute fat house cats.

However the two women were in partnership for a long time. There are many people who have known Maria in the past who speak of how badly her dogs are treated. In fact old show photos of her dogs in the UK show dogs with no muscle tone, weak pasterns, and flat feet – dogs that look like they’ve never been exercised or kept properly. If this is the way she keeps her dogs, and Joyce co-owned dogs with her, I’ll ask again, how was it that Joyce did not see how these dogs were being kept? Why did she not keep tabs on the well being of these dogs? Maria was there for some time, there were regular updates on her website about her outings to shows with Joyce etc.

Oh and yeah, they did not breed the dogs together, and they did not live on the same property- not even close. I have nothing against you Caroline and I don’t even know who anyone else posting here even is and I couldn’t care less about Maria’s breeding dogs and shows and breeds in general. But please, get your facts straight. I know it’s easy to misunderstand this situation, but Joyce is straight up and did nothing wrong. She has never had a reason to be gracious to a nobody pet owner like me, never mind was she obligated to show me her entire home and kennel because I randomly asked for a tour because it’s really neat there and I am into houses and decorating. Hell maybe if you visit her you would be surprised and she would tell you the real story and give you a tour too. That’s the kind of person she is. Kind and honest! The trouble is I had many people saying the same to me about Maria when she was in the UK. She was gracious, helpful and kind. I also had many people telling me some absolute horror stories about her. People can portray themselves however they wish to be seen. And as I mentioned above, photos of her dogs back then showed quite clearly that these dogs were not healthy looking animals.
To be honest I’d be more than happy to stand corrected on the point about Joyce. I dont know the woman. I am however still highly suspicious of anyone connected with Maria in any capacity as I find it hard to believe that regardless of where they lived, the state of these dogs was not picked up on.

I’m not sure if it is possible for her to set up again given the US is so large but if all the relevant clubs are aware of the situation I would hope that this will help stop any plans she may have for the future. FYI ANYONE one of my dogs can be taken out of my house and hit the lure coursing field, race track or a dog showand anyone can tell you that but I dont need to prove myself to you or build up some stupid resume to convince anyone, the show stats and trial wins are enough of a verification. Erm, why is Maria Goodman suddenly a buddy of mine? Where on earth have I stated any support for that woman? If it’s completely inconceivable to you that knowing Maria of old, I would not be deeply suspicious of anyone who was in a partnership with her then I cant change that. I have asked reasonable questions about Joyce, I have not stated anything as fact about her, I have merely questioned whether she has been checked out or not. I still believe that she must have had some idea of what has been going on here, and I am still entitled to my opinion!
I do have to say that calling Maria ‘mentally unstable’ (which she may be), is a little ironic given your torrent of exceedingly ‘mentally unstable’ torrents of abuse aimed at me! I have not resorted to name throwing as I think reasoned discussion should be conducted in an adult manner. You do nothing to help your argument by speaking to me in this way.
This is a first-hand account of my experience with the situation at the Florida kennel. Around Oct. I received a phone call from a friend here in Denver who told me she had heard a rumor that Maria Goodman had abandoned a bunch of dogs at her kennel, including 13 Ibizan Hounds. My dog had sired two dogs Maria had bought from their breeder Stephanie Nelson approximately 3 years prior. This rumor came with a contact number to Pam Haig(Pharoah rescue) I called Pam immediately, who had a pretty good handle on things, and a lot of information. I contacted Stephanie at once and we suspected the two dogs she had, had been left. I was also concerned as Maria had used the male to breed a litter with Shammy and thought some of those may have been left also. The last thing Stephanie and I said to each other was we needed to get those dogs the hell out of there. I also contacted two ICHUS board members that night and told them “we got trouble in Florida”. By the next morning, ICHUS Rescue was very aware of the dire circumstance of the dogs, and requested help in identifying the dogs. Stephanie and her husband decided to drive to Florida from Minnesota to get the two dogs we identified. 3000 miles people!
I exchanged emails with Maria from time to time about those dogs, and she was completely aware that we would always take either back-for any reason. I believed she was not happy with the boy, but she would tell me he has the most gorgeous head and ears and he was going to be along time growing up. Maria sent me pictures of the Shammy litter she bred, so it hadnt been that long before that we had corresponded. So, Maria had plenty opportunity to return either of those dogs-to either myself or Stephanie. She didn’t leave Shammy or any Shammy pups….
The dogs were in pretty bad condition and it didn’t happen in one or two weeks. The pasterns are so weak, I have to wonder have they ever stood on anything but concrete? No muscle condition-it’s the last thing to go people. A dog, especially an Ibizan, can be very thin-but still have good muscle tone-the body uses muscle as it’s last resort. These dogs were in very, very, poor condition, full of parasites, standing in urine and feces.
I’m in awe of their spirit-they have made incredible progress over the last several months. They both act like they never came out of a kennel-very undersocialized. The boy is a bit more outgoing. They are affectionate, loving dogs that did not deserve to be treated as they were.
I personally believe all the individuals that allowed these dogs to get to the condition they were in, are one as culpable as the other.
I cringe that Maria still has Ibizans-or any dogs for that matter. I would not have this opinion had Maria let me know she needed help with the dogs. I knew she had had health issues, but when we spoke personally on the phone about the newborn Shammy pups she never mentioned that her health was affecting her to the point she couldn’t breed dogs, take care of dogs, go to dog shows, etc.,… Not a mention of any hardships.
I am also aware that others did offer Maria assistance-why she didn’t take it or reach out to others in the Ibizan community-starting with myself and Stephanie, concerning the dogs she got from us is beyond me. But to be so stubborn or egotistical to let 20 dogs suffer the way they did is unconscionable.
Thank you for explaining this Lu and I admire the lengths you went to, to help out these dogs in their hour of need. The explanation of lack of muscle tone and weak pasterns is the same as how Maria’s dogs looked in the UK. I’m so pleased the dogs are all doing well, it can take some time to get there with dogs that have been through this type of experience but I know how humbling it can be to see them blossom once they are given the right care.
Maria would not have asked for help because, as her posts above show, she thinks she can lie her way out of any situation. However she forgets what she has said so often that most of these lies contradict each other. Maybe this time she really has given up on the dog world (we can live in hope) and so felt the consequences wouldnt affect her either way. Who knows.
I also believe that anyone who supported her in the US is, in part, to blame for this too.
I have had contact with someone who rescued one of the dogs, it is wonderful to see photos and here how he is also getting better with each day.

AKC is looking into Maria Goodman’s AKC records and the discrepancies and inconsistancies. Maria made statements to AKC implicating Joyce had discrepancies, which were minimal and cleared up, but, it was also a double edged sword since some of these same issues will make Maria not in compliance with AKC rules and regulations.
I met the human adopters of Harley. They are wonderful experienced sight hound people. I cant say who it is or where they live in fear that Maria will attempt to go after them. I believe Harley is the dog she has tattooed on her arm. Harley was in pretty rough shape but is blossoming now and put on weight.
Apparently there are those on this blog that do not understand the laws here in the US let alone the county that Maria Goodman was living in at the time of these poor dogs were being rescued. Some people on this blog are clearly misinformed but yet make horrible assumptions about innocent people and cant stand that we will not say who were are (because we happen to fear crazy people with guns) DUH!! and we dont have the luxury of living 4000-5000 miles away. There are some that are asking invasive and personal questions that frankly can only be answered by the people involved but yet, people still make statements castigating innocent people without checking their supposed facts and then dont even bother to contact the involved parties. As far as Joyce goes, she will never come on here and post anything let alone even read this crap. It is just a way to bait Joyce into a battle because Maria is the type like some others on here that relish and thrive on controversy and self grandizing and self importance and drama and making quippy assinine jabs at people that know the truth.
It is nice that some have come on and stated what they have actually witnessed and not some contrived opinion dictating what should and should not happen to innocent people that did what they felt was in the best interest of the dogs owing to the restrictions of the law. When there is a rescue of this magnitude, people dont exactly ask for an entire diatribe while dogs lives lay in the hands of the those that are trying to help. It is a very difficult situation to walk into the scene that was left for everyone else to clean up. Not just some 5 minute cleanup. Everyone involved just jumped right in to get the dogs situated some coming from 1000s of miles away. This was a crime against the dogs committed by Maria Goodman. However, it is a shame the authorities were not called, but, then again, 20 innocent lives looked into Joyce’s eyes asking her to do the right thing and let them live.
Fact: Joyce St Germaine DID NOT LIVE WITH MARIA GOODMAN for quite sometime.
FACT: Joyce entrusted Maria to run a boarding kennel business which also provided her a wonderful environment for her own dogs as well as lovely home to live in.
FACT: Since things appeared to be going well, Joyce did not see the need to run over to the kennel boarding facility to inspect Maria and the dogs. Joyce was, at the time, comfortable with leaving Maria in charge of the facility while Joyce and her husband were living at and rennovating a home several miles and towns away.
FACT: Maria was showing and winning with the dogs.
FACT: That gave assurances to Joyce that she did not need to check up on MARIA so Joyce could concentrate on the renovation and maintenance of her own dogs at her own home.
FACT: there was a falling out, what exactly that was, you would have to contact Joyce herself but it has something to do with the business figures not doing well, and Maria stating she was having health issues again,and her husband that would scream at clients for parking in the wrong spot or barking during agility, etc and Joyce offered to pay for whatever Maria needed ie: like a ticket for her and her son back to the UK so she could get free medical care vs having to pay here for heart surgery.
FACT: Maria threatened Joyce. That meant certain procedures had to be processed before Joyce could enter onto her own boarding/kennel property without retribution. It is called a law that she had to abide by.
FACT: Maria was asked to vacate the property. How that eviction notification was given, is something I cant answer.
FACT: Joyce is an attorney.
FACT: She is not a millionaire and has no new vehicles.
FACT: Maria vacated the premises.
FACT: The place was destroyed. 20 pure bred dogs including a Shar-pei were found in piles of feces, urine, with no food or water, covered in parasites, emaciated, dehydrated and the place was over run with rats, etc.
FACT: IF JOYCE HAD CALLED Animal Control …ALL THE DOGS WOULD HAVE BEEN SEIZED AND THEN BECAUSE OF THE A/C FACILITY AND RULES AND COUNTY REGULATIONS, ALL THE DOGS WOULD HAVE BEEN EUTHANIZED. In order for the dogs to have a second chance at life, Joyce took it upon herself to take these dogs to the veterinarian herself and get them updated on shots, worming, etc and any immediate veterinary care taken care of. So this shows lack of compassion?
FACT: Joyce was unable to accurately identify all the dogs as no identifiable information was left behind. The dogs all looked the same in all this horror and mahem.
FACT: Joyce contacted all the breed rescues to come and help and hopefully identify the dogs and get them back to their breeders if at all possible. Every sighthound rescue came as quickly as possible to help Joyce with these dogs except for Shar Pei rescue. So this shows lack of compassion?
FACT: Joyce’s residence was miles away and her husband was out of country on business so Joyce had to also maintain all her own animals as well as try to monitor construction men at her home at the same time she was overwhelmed by the horrific scene that she came to at her boarding/kennel facility.
FACT: Joyce acted as quickly as legally possibly to secure the health and well being of 20 neglected to the point of abused large breed dogs that were abandoned in addition to having to deal with the trashed home in which Maria’s numerous parrots destroyed the window sills, doors, walls leaving gaping holes everywhere, on top of all the filth and squaller. So this shows lack of compassion?
FACT: In the state of Florida, one can not just enter their own their property that you have given someone permission or rights to live at.

QUESTION: Is the above question quoting someone on this blog considered libel against Joyce of whom claim they does not know Joyce? Here is the definition of libel: written or oral defamatory statement or representation that conveys an unjustly unfavorable impression (1). b (1)a statement or representation published without just cause and tending to expose another to public contempt(2). (2)defamation of a person by written or representational means.
I am so over the persons on here condemning Joyce when ALL of this is Maria Goodman’s responsibility and fault.
Co-ownership in the state of Florida means diddilisquat. One can only do so much when another is not doing right by the dogs. We are a nation of laws. They must be followed. Some people can not and will not accept responsibility for their actions or lack there of and toss the blame on anyone else but themselves. And then, other people revel and roll with pleasure in taking down innocent people that did what they thought was the right and humane actions for the dogs. Sick just plain sick all at the expense of the dogs. Not one single person has asked for Joyce’s contact information so you can contact her yourselves. It just shows how little some people are continuing to question and cast aspersions on everyone BUT MARIA GOODMAN. Where were some of you in the UK, you had the opportunity to stop her then? What, everyone was afraid?? Well what the hell do you all think? That it is any different here???? In case you dont get it yet, Maria is not mentally stable, has made threats, and has a gun!
Just so you know, I knew nothing about Maria Goodman in the UK until she had left for the US. I asked exactly the same questions you ask now – why was nothing done about it while she was here. In fact I got the impression from pretty much everyone that it was indeed because they were afraid of her. I got as much abuse as you are giving me at the time for daring to suggest she was anything but a good and genuine person. As time has gone on the rose tinted specs have fallen from most of those people’s eyes (although I was amazed to hear recently that there are still some in one or two of her breeds that say she has done nothing wrong).
When I had DNA tests done to prove she had left a dog with the dreadful people in the UK and had lied about the fact I sent this information on to her Sloughi Club in the US (ASLA). I did not have any contacts in her other breeds although in hindsight I should have made the effort to find some. It may be to do with the fact that ASLA stood by her and said they thought she’d done nothing wrong. In fact where I stated before about the photos of her dogs looking dreadful at shows in the UK, Mrs Moreau-Sipiere of ASLA was judging at one of them. Clearly didnt see the dogs as I and many others could see them, and gave her 3 more. With that sort of support in the US, and other people willing to give her dogs, what could anyone do from the UK other than wait to see this to it’s inevitable conclusion.
I actually did take the time to find Joyce St Giermaine’s email address when this all happened. She ignored it.
The fact that you really believe that anyone takes any sort of delight in this is ridiculous. The fact that you are so heated and violent in your replies means I cant take anything you say too seriously. If Joyce has been seen by the relevant authorities and all of her dogs are well cared for I’ll be more than happy with that result – apart from anything else it means that there are no more dogs being ill treated (apart from those still with Maria). But I still think it’s a valid question given her close partnership with Maria for the past 4-5 years.
You actually had the opportunity to speak up for your friend Joyce in a reasoned and calm manner, put the facts as you state forward and tell people why they have made wrong assumptions. In fact I would have taken them more seriously if you had done just that. Attacking me or anyone else who wants to find out exactly what went on here as if it’s our fault this happened is irrational and unreasonable.

Well I think that everyone should just stop arguing and get on with trying to do what anyone can about the situation. At the end of the day this wicked woman has left devastation in more than one country! Lets all try and be constructive and work together to prevent this from happening again. Primarily we know that Maria Goodman has neglected many animals and conned alot of people, so she needs addressed first. We have to put personallitys aside and do what is right for the dogs and the ones this will happen to in the future unless something can be done NOW.

From what I have read by the time it all came to light what she had been up to in the UK she was in the US, in the current breeds after self reinvention. And the same in the US when people found out it was too late. Stephanie Nelsons heartfelt post on this site really does inspire you to do something.
Lets try and work together as we obviously have a circle of good knowledgable people from a variety of different backgounds.
We need to unite to get those dogs out of there and get and get justice for the rest. Anyone who is in favour of this, reply and let me know your positive actions to help the situation…..
With the trail of destruction left behind her both in the UK and the US I do think people need to focus on this for sure.
I would hope that anyone with clout from her respective breed clubs should be discussing this with the AKC. Does anyone even know where she is at present? Can the relevant animal welfare organisation get involved (whatever the US equivalent is to the RSPCA?). I assume that the people who took these dogs away will have enough evidence via vet reports and photos to build a good case.
I understand that in the US the AKC is not the only registry for registering litters though. What about the other registries? Have all of them been informed?
The other thing that I have been wondering, after looking at the advert for the boarding kennels is that her son and ex-husband also had access to these dogs. I have no idea where Les is in this picture now, but is attention being paid to her son. The way people got around this problem here when caught out way back in the Sloughi incident was to transfer dog ownership so the dogs they wanted to keep were legally someone elses (potentially her sons) and therefore regardless of authorities taking action, she could still theoretically breed more litters and show more dogs in her son’s name. Just something else to consider.
Im sure it is sad for her but Joyce is not the current concern. What do you think being a pet person? Do you think something positive can be done about the situation?
I don’t know the solution- the dogs are okay now and that is what matters most to me. That said, if Maria still has dogs, I do think they should be removed from her care or at the very least, they should be checked upon routinely. I would think checking the son and the ex would be wise.
As far as I know, no one knows where Maria lives or with whom or anything currently.
I have been trying to stay out of this, but now that the kennels have been repeatedly referred to as sh*t and my business name has been brought into it. I feel the need to step up and say a few things! I will not attack or accept attacks from others. I will only clear up as much of the truth as I know!
1) The kennels are great! They smell wonderful, still need a little work, but with some TLC they’ll be awesome! We haven’t seen a single rat since Nov.
2)I pulled in the driveway @ the moment that the UHAUL was pulling out, I believe it was around 9am on Oct. 9th! Anyone who lives in Fl knows it’s still hella hot here in OCT. Joyce had to have contractors change all the door knobs and locks b/c someone had locked her out! The power had been turned off to the kennels due to nonpayment, yet somehow, the power to the house and the verizon fios (cable) was still turned on, hmmmm!
3) There were 21 dogs left in the dark, hot, stinky, humid building. Some of which I was told were champions, but I wouldn’t have known by the fact that they had staff infections, rat bites, were malnourished and dehydrated! There were also 2 beautiful hairless cats who had been left in their own filth to die I guess!
4) After Joyce took the time and money to do what she could w/ some of them, she contacted the rescues to help b/c neither of us wanted to see these poor babies die after all they had been thru. I didn’t agree at first. I told Joyce, we need to call animal control, but after doing my research, I realized all of them would have likely been put down. Including the sharpei that’s owners believed Maria had taken to a rescue in Ga a year previous. Imagine the shock to them when I called and asked, why is your dog still here after 2 yrs? Btw, he went to a great rescue right up the street to find a home after his skin infection cleared!
5) My belief is that, if this what breeding, showing, and AKC are all about, I want nothing to do w/ it! I’ve always done rescue and thats all I will ever do!
6) To answer Maria’s question, Joyce has put very little into fixing up this place, only into clean up! I don’t know where you get the idea that you should be paid and get healthcare to run a nonfuctional business, but my husband and I work day and night on this place and no we don’t expect anything from Tim or Joyce! If you live on the property for free, then you don’t get paid unless you work and allow customers on the property! No, I’m not scared of Maria b/c I’m a permitted gun owner too and my hubby loves venemous snakes! After we finished cleaning the property up, I called every customer in the database. 1 out 5 had some horror story of there dog coming home in terrible conditions, not being cared for. Dogs being crated in the office, customers were never allowed to see where their dogs were staying, they would get cussed out and yelled at. All this being said, how would one expect to make any money let alone a salary? We have done fairly well at rebuilding the reputation of this property and I challenge anyone of you to come out and take a tour and see how well cared for and loved everyone’s pets are! It’s amazing how great this business can go, if you just take the time to clean regularly and do prevenative maintenance!
7) I too have personally seen all of Joyce’s properties, she does not have 30 -60 dogs (I can’t keep up with all the #s people keep throwing out) she does gladly offer tours pretty regularly! AKC did come out and approve both her house and the kennels! Joyce does genuinely care for and love animals!
8)We are still finding dead dog carcasses on this property! If anyone cares to come dig them up and identify them, feel free! We have nothing to hide! I’m just glad that all the dogs that were here survived!
9) I have never heard of or seen Joyce show any interest in showing/breeding Ibizans or pharohs, so how were any of those hers?
10) Animal Control was called out to the kennels several times by customers I later talked to, btw as long as dogs have water, shelter and food, they won’t do anything. Animal Control was never allowed to see in certain other buildings which by the rancid odors and ridiculous conditions of under the house, who knows how many dogs died down there! It took an overflowing 27ft construction dumpster (Joyce paid for)to clean the office and the house out! And you wonder why there were ants climbing the walls in that beautiful house. Can we say feces and btw if you don’t pay the pest control guy, he won’t come back!
11) I am still working on earning the trust of some of those customers, one of which will never come back b/c her dog died of anemia (tics) and dehydration! Who does this to other people’s pets?! I would kill myself before allowing something like that to happen!
12) amazingly, when you constantly work , market, and properly care for kennels they should make enough money to pay their own bills! So, you don’t have to blame others.
13) if I were to have health problems and have that many pets, I would call up rescues to get them, do anything I could to help them find good homes, then move back home until I was well again! But obviously, I care about animals more than myself or I wouldn’t have taken on this place! I wish that something could be done to make people pay for how they mistreat animals, but 800,000 pets get euthanized in shelters in the US everyday and we do nothing about that! I hear atleast one story a day about a pet being thrown from a car window and rarely is anything done about that! I will never bring another dog or cat into this world until I know that something is being done about that 800,000! As for the people on this blog, I hope we all learn from this, that we should do unto others (including pets) as you would have done to you! We should always triple check our coowners/breeders and handlers before supporting them! I know a prize winning handler, here in the lovely state of FL that keeps upto 50 dogs on her truck any given day and most of them live in little boxes 24 hours/day unless they are being shown! And they are still importing dogs, btw 1/2 of the 50, she gets paid to handle for other people! I wish that AKC cared enough to inspect all the dogs! This is so sad and sick, all people care about anymore is reputation and money! Sounds like glorified “hoarding” to me! Well, Thankfully, I have 3 rescued dogs and 3 rescued cats! If anyone has anymore questions they think that I can answer, feel free to ask. I’m a painfully honest person and like I said before, I’ve got nothing to hide! I hope there was no confusion, I am Thankful everyday for those rescue groups who saved those pups lives and to Joyce for choosing to be my partner and giving my hubby and I this awesome opportunity!

You sound as if you have as much regard for the AKC as I do of the KC in the UK! It’s a shame that more is not done to ensure breeders do not get away with this sort of horror over and over again. As you can see by my former posts I am no fan of Maria, however due to the trouble we had in the UK with one breeder taking all the blame for the state of a number of Sloughis that were found, the other walking away enabling her to do the same all over again (which she did), I do find myself looking for information that clarifies that these dogs were Maria’s alone. And the answer to that question is that they were not.
As I dont know who you are or how long you have known Joyce, in answer to your point 9, she did breed and co-own Ibizans with Maria, so not sure where you are getting your information from? If you look at the Ibizan Hound Club database on dogs, you will see that at least 3 of the dogs that went into rescue were bred by Maria and Joyce (Deacon, CC and Shay).
So either you have not known Joyce that long, or she has not been straight with you. I have yet to look into the Pharoah Hounds. So the trouble for me is that although I believe Maria to be responsible for some of what went on here, when statements like ‘I have never heard of or seen Joyce show any interest in showing/breeding Ibizans or pharohs, so how were any of those hers?’ ring alarm bells. There was even a photo on the front page of the Akhanubis website of Maria and Joyce standing with a show Ibizan Hound! This website and the Dogstars International website have been down since this happened. I can understand why Maria would have taken hers off line, but if Joyce had nothing to hide, why has hers disappeared too?
I have done this sort of research before, it takes time and patience (neither of which I have in abundance at the moment!), however in this age of the internet it is quite easy to scrape the surface on some of these situations and see that not all is as it seems. I am based in the UK so there is not much I can do personally in this situation. But I still dont believe that Joyce had nothing to do with this. We’ve had her version of events on this blog and Marias. Both vastly contradict each other. Maria has lied to me in the past so I cant say I always believe what she says. However Joyce has now lied (maybe through you or her friend Lois) about even being involved with these breeds. Something is peculiar about that because surely others in Ibizans know this is a lie and Joyce must know that too? You can see that at least 3 of the 11 Ibizans were bred by Maria and Joyce, it’s hard for me to know about the other 8 as I dont know their kennel names, I believe that at least two of those were Maria’s, one was her sons, but that still leaves 5 whose ownership is unknown (well to me anyway). What makes Maria’s part in neglecting these 3 dogs mentioned above 100% while Joyce is not responsible at all? I believe that anyone who breeds a litter should be responsible for those puppies their entire lives. Not only has Joyce said she doesnt even know the dogs (it has been stated that she claimed she didnt recognise any of the dogs in rescue), she must have lied about destroyed papers – wouldnt both women have access to the records of these puppies registration (although I’m happy to be put straight on that fact, I dont know the procedures involved, just assume if they are bred in partnership then both breeders should have access to the records). I actually find it quite abhorent that she could deny even knowing the dogs that she bred. The facts are in black and white.
I’d ask that those in the US do not simply feel that this is done and dusted just because Maria is now out of the picture so to speak. Both have now lied as far as I’m concerned (Maria to me and others previously on issues like this, Joyce in her denial of acknowledging her own dogs), which means that any or none of their respective version of events could be true. Dont make the same mistake that the people did in the UK over the terrible Sloughi situation. Almost another 30 dogs over here had more years of suffering just because it was an easy option to blame only one person. I will continue to look into this even if no-one else wants to, I think given the severity of this situation and the horrific state these dogs were found in, any of the people involved in this should be named and shamed. And hopefully other breeders might think twice about giving dogs to either of these women again.
I don’t know Joyce that well, I’ve only known her since Oct. But she prefers borzois and her borzois are in fantastic shape! I think she bought those dogs for Maria before her health issues arose. Because Maria had such great dogs and was such a good trainer @ that time, she didn’t think she need to check on them! By the time they realized what was going on, legally they couldn’t interfere, plus everyone was locked out! If Joyce could’ve gone in the kennels and removed all those dogs months prior,she would have! she nor I or anyone in her family could live with ourselves knowing we hurt any animals like that! Hope I cleared some more up for everyone!
Thanks for your reply. I would imagine that Joyce has not mentioned Ibizan’s or Pharoah’s in that short space of time, especially as this had already happened by then. The fact still remains that she is cited as co-owner and breeder of some of these dogs that ended up in rescue. If she had just bought Maria the dogs and had nothing to do with them then her name wouldnt have been mentioned anywhere. The fact still remains that she told people she recognised none of these dogs in rescue when in fact she is listed as being co-owner/breeder. I think we may have to agree to differ on this, for me it is very clear. And hugely upsetting to be honest, this is why so many dogs end up in rescue all over the world, because some breeders think of them as a disposable commodity. So unfortunately it doesnt clear anything up for me.
I feel from your posts that you really are someone who genuinely cares about dogs so if nothing else at least you are able to maybe keep an eye on things. Although as I have no idea where Joyce keeps her other dogs I dont know whether you will have access to them.
I still have some other stuff I want to read up on so may come back to you at some point regarding this.
This is the info that I’ve gotten, but Joyce refuses to take part in any of this blog. So, I got the info I could for you b/c you seem to truly care about the dogs and I know that Joyce is a good person and she doesn’t need to be attacked anymore. If I didnt think she was a good person, I wouldn’t be her partner! So, here’s what I got:
“For the record, the only reason I was involved with any of the Ibizans
was so that Maria could make up enough entries to create majors at the
dog shows, and the only reason that I “co-owned” any of them with her
was so that I could enter them in the “bred-by” class, thereby giving
her another way to enter enough of them to make a major for herself. I
quickly discovered that Ibizans are not my breed, and I’ve never owned
or co-owned a sloughi or pharaoh hound.
When she first came over to the US (and wasn’t crazy), her Ibizan bitch
(Lark) died from some awful disease, over which Maria had absolutely no control. In fact, she made many trips up and back to Gainesville to the veterinary school there to try to save her. She literally went into at
least $4,000 debt trying to save her but she died anyway. Lark was
going to help re-establish Maria in Ibizans over here. Then, her other
bitch developed cancer (through no fault of Maria’s) and she went into
further debt trying to save her, but she died as well.
Then, she got Shammy from a US breeder to basically start all over
again. I helped pay for Shammy (which is why I co-own her) and a dog
named “Chance,” who was returned to his owner with papers (because I
had the papers). Maria wanted the bloodlines. Then Shammy won BOB at
EUKANUBA and Westminster, but she came down with some terrible illness
and, again, Maria went into huge debt at Animal ER and the local vet.
She took Shammy home, kept her on an IV at home, nursed her around the
clock, and literally saved her life when everybody thought she would
die.
The Maria that I helped get into this country was not at all like what
she is today. I saw how she treated her animals back then, and she
always put their needs before her own. On behalf of the people who are
defending her, this “old” version is probably all that they know. If I
hadn’t seen it with my own eyes and experienced the way that she has
become over the last two years, I wouldn’t believe it either.
As for the dogs that she co-owns with me (toy fox terriers and borzoi),
she wanted to get her credentials as an all-breed AKC judge so it was
good for her to show involvement with breeds other than Ibizans or
Pharaohs. At the time that I put her name on these dogs, there was no
reason not to. Maria was eccentric (like most of the “dog people” I
know) but not mean and not crazy.”
What I know for a fact is that Joyce has left paperwork with the hairdresser they both use, to get their names of of some of these dogs. But Joyce is stuck with Maria on hers and hers on Maria’s. I know Joyce has been adopting out her dogs and I don’t think she intends on doing much else except with a certain few! She is not a collector and doesn’t want to be. I can not vouch for who she used to be, but I also can’t vouch for Maria since I didn’t know her! All I can do is help by sharing facts so no one feels misled! Once again, I hope that everyone has learned an important lesson from all of this.
If I had anything to do with showing I would be trying to get her banned so that she cant continue. I think you should urge Joyce to persue this avenue……People shouldnt be able to carry on. (Never mind still be responsible for dogs)
Re: Caroline’s last comment, I was here when the rescues showed up and I was here when Maria left! I had come here before and seen things too. By that point there was nothing anyone could do unless you happen to catch Maria on one of her good days! Joyce did recognize Chance/Cowboy, but how would Joyce recognize the others. She had not seen them since they were pups! And Maria had alot that looked alike, most of them were missing alot of their fur and were emaciatedtoo!
If it weren’t for some of the people from the rescues who had seen them fairly recently at shows, no one would have known who they were! Besides that, Joyce and I were a little overwhelmed, stressed, and
heartbroken. It was amazing that any of us could think straight in all of that mess!
I do guinuinely care for all animals and I see all of Joyce’s dogs about once a week! Most of them are tubby and happy! She loves her pets and they are not disposable to her!
Did Maria mention anything about the animals in kennel as she was leaving? Did Maria change the kennel locks too? Does anyone know how long the animals were locked in without food & water? Amazing to me any survived!
AKC can pull registrations on dogs owned by Maria, regardless of where she is hiding. That would take away Maria’s ability to show or register any more puppies with AKC.
@ Craig, the AKC does want to penalize her, but she is in hiding! Noone can find Maria! Joyce will not pursue any of it, she is so done with all of this!
I dont understand why people keep saying she is in hiding. The person who owns this blog has said she knows where she works. And it has also been mentioned that she goes to the same hairdresser as Joyce. How hard can it be to find her with this information readily available?
The other thing is that the horror this has generated given the severe neglect of these dogs, I’m not sure I understand why Joyce would not pursue this with the AKC. If she is as horrified as everyone else is, why not make sure this does not happen again. Or is it because she co-owns some of these dogs, that the AKC will penalise both her and Maria regardless of what version of events they are both telling? I guess it would be impossible to get the truth given the varying stories, and also the AKC probably are not interested in the whys and wherefores, it will come down to who is named as owner of the dogs on their registration papers. If I’m wrong, please correct me, this is supposition on my part as I dont know how this would pan out in such an event.
Can someone clarify the number of dogs taken? The initial report I saw back in October 09 said 22 dogs (16 Ibbys, 4 Pharoahs, 2 Sloughis). However Amy says there were 21 dogs and Lu says that there were only 13 Ibbys. So far there have been Stephanie Nelson’s two dogs identified (Paddy and Cushla), Deacon, Shay, CC and Harley. So potentially there were either 7 more Ibizans or 10 more. It might make it easier to work out who is missing if the number taken is clarified. I understand there were also 2 Sloughis and 4 Pharoahs which seems to be consistent. Amy – as you were there can you tell me how many Ibizans were actually there, or anyone else involved for that matter?
I have known Maria for about 6 months. She claims she is a millionaire and an attorney. She says her sister is a member of Parliament. She is a big time liar!
Oh and get this she went Cambridge and is diamond expert. Also she get royalties from her days as a backup singer for Rush or some other big rock band. Please keep this site up because you are helping people to find out that this person is not who she claims to be.
If anyone needs to find her she hangs out at the Anchor Inn a lot and at Mary Annes Hair Saloon both on Holmes Beach. I hear she was recently evicted from her dump on a dead end street in Holmes Beach and is now living off 43rd in Bradenton FL. Works at a we buy gold pawn shop in Bradenton I hear.
Im sure that the AKC would be able to ban her registrations etc for the good of future dogs no matter where she lives. Maybe someone should ask the question I would but I dont know who to contact or the technicalities surrounding this. Does anyone else know what happens to do this or if anyone has? I would do it is someone told me what to do.

I have known Maria for about a year she is a completely untrustworthy person. Usually, if two or more people say someone is a liar they are a liar. Believe me when I say this woman is a pathological liar! If I get the chance to revoke her green card I will jump on it!
I am now homing (forever) a Pharaoh bitch named Shay from PHCA Rescue. About 10 years old in fair health, who gets along well with my other PH’s. She came from Delaware, Im in the Northeast. We believe she may have come from farther south? Anyone know of any litters out of FL, coming from Akhanubis? or info. on this sweet girl, I could never abandon? The story above is littered with excuses for an inexcusable horror. Any help?

It’s about time someone exposed this vile woman. Too long did she have her supporters in the UK who wouldnt have a word said against her, too long did she have her supporters at ASLA who not only supported her but ignored evidence of her lies and mistreatment leaving her on their board of directors (till it appeared in the public domain at which point they silently removed her – have to put that in before their Legal Eagle threatens me with yet more legal action for simply telling the truth!), too long has she been able to get away with abhorrent cruelty to dogs. The person who started this blog is full of crap, weren’t you the one she REFUSED to let have a puppy years ago when you met her at Crufts and you gunned for her ever since? She once showed me the crap you wrote way back when.
Yes, she knew the people in all of your reports, and tried to help Jacky Saunders, but could not because of show dog politics.
Also she was NOT fired from her job, they didn’t pay her for two years, and she was hospitalized with her third heart attack she had no access to the dogs at the kennel after that.
Oh Joyce St.Germaine who owned the kennels? She has SIXTY plus dogs, she is a collector, and she was responsible for the dogs, married to a millionaire I might add , believe he was something to do with the Montessori Foundation, and the ones went to rescue..she put them there. andwhen she thought she had a buyer for the kennel never even tried to contact Maria once she thought she was out of the way and if fact was hoping she was in England so she didn’t have to worry about being sued!.None of you people know Maria and you go on the stupid comments of Caroline who met her ONCE almost eight years ago!!

She had many top winning dogs, and funny how ALL the people visited the kennel when she had her dogs there never once said there were dogs in a bad way Not true some reported some very negative visits, some of the top handlers and breeders stayed there, this is bullshit from a sad person who didn’t get her own way, and likes to build up her own ego..

Why would someone who did nothing wrong go into hiding like this?
The truths are:
Maria left 20+ dogs in squalid confinement & drove off.
She did not leave any way to contact her.
She made no attempt to get the dogs.
Maria made no attempt to get the dogs she didn’t want back to breeders/co-owners or foster homes.
Maria said dogs that were there belonged to St.Germaine.THIS IS A FLAT OUT LIE.
Her reputation as a show person, hell as a Dog Person is FOREVER ruined because MARIA CHOSE TO WATCH THE DOGS SUFFER FOR MONTHS RATHER THAN GET THEM TO SAFE PLACES.

OK firstly I did not write this blog. Anything that I have written about Maria Goodman or anyone else that matter I make it clear that I have written it. If I had been as cowardly as some I would have done the whole Sloughi Website anonymously. Not my style. So most of your post directed at me is irrelevant, I didnt write any of it.
Secondly I never asked Maria or anyone else for a puppy. This is the same story she pedals out all the time because she cant grasp the fact that my reason for any of the Sloughi rescue stuff has been because I care about those dogs, plain and simple. Who the hell would do THAT much work to discredit someone if it had been as simple as being denied one of her dubiously bred Sloughis. Why wouldnt I have just gone to another breeder? The fact that she cant understand this highlights why she shouldnt have dogs in my opinion. If it is so alien to her that someone should care so much about welfare, she should be banned from breeding or owning dogs again.
I asked her at Discover Dogs around 10 years ago if she recognised my dog as I thought he may be a Sloughi. I showed her photos and she told me that he was a smooth Saluki. Then some years later when I was looking at information regarding her involvement with Jacky Saunders I saw that she actually had my dog’s sister. In fact I have a video of my dog at a show with Jacky Saunders that Maria also attended. My dog ended up in rescue where I adopted him. She denied knowing him and claimed he was a smooth Saluki. Yet she’d been at a show with him and owned his sister. He also ended up in rescue in the area which she lived at that time. Whether that had anything to do with her trying to make out he was something that he wasnt I dont know. I do know that he was starved, beaten with cigarette burns on him though.
I may have met Maria only a couple of times but have enough evidence of the person she is which can be seen here http://www.sloughi-rescue.org/ukrescuesloughistory.htm As you can see it is all backed up with concrete evidence.
I actually made sure what I said on my comments above to be factual and true, because I’ve had veiled threats of legal action before from Maria and ASLA. Which is why everything I post here and on my website is factual. If it’s all rubbish why is everything still sitting in the public domain. Why haven’t these people taken steps to take my ‘reports’ off-line? Because it’s all true. I was referring to my comments on the blog, not the blog itself. Which as I say I did not write.
Your final paragraph makes me wonder if you are Maria herself. I know very few people now who would refer to her as ‘a great show person’. This blog has certainly done the rounds, and yet you are the only person so far to stick up for her. And it certainly sounds like her style of writing. A bit like the supposed email to a sighthound list from her brother whining about how none of this was her fault, it was all St Germaine. Which all sounded very much like her too!
I dont hide behind blogs or anything else for that matter. This blog was not my work although I’m pleased that someone else is wanting to expose this woman for what she really is. Anything I know about her is on my website. In the main I have no idea what happened in Florida. She was a continent away so how would I know what happened over there? I have nothing to do with her or her Sloughi supporters at ASLA and I dont know anyone else in her other breeds to speak to.
Nice try at deflecting the situation onto me though! Maria has tried that many times with the same sad old nonsense. I wasnt the person who left all those dogs in a pitiful condition. This is about her blatant disregard for welfare. Both her and St Germaine should be held accountable for what happened to those dogs. Whether that happens or not remains to be seen.

The kennels were shit and Maria told Joyce many times to fix them to no avail, Joyce didn’t own any of the dogs, bullshit, she did.
The show people didn’t like Maria because she was successful and many of them asked for puppies, didn’t like she had the number one Ibizan when she was only over here five minutes.
You too are sick puppies, hey take a trip over to SR 64 where Joyce lives or the new Amys’ Bed Bath and Biscuit maybe they actually spent money on the joint now!!

Well..Hello Again MARIA! Since both comments (Patsi Renard & Ann Harlow) came from reidagee.com. The law office Maria Goodman works at I think the writing is on the wall and Maria is the only person who would even try to defend such cruelty. I wonder if people at her work are aware she is using their names? Or are they completely fictional?
So Maria had three heart attacks, there were 2 other adults there, her son & her husband. Yet no one gave even MINIMUM care to the dogs. Why couldn’t you call for help??

Why would someone who took there dog to a kennels know all that, not very professional? I wouldnt leave my dog at a kennel where I knew the manager had no money to feed her own dogs with let alone mine while it was there!
I thought Maria was her handler so obviously she would have paid her then! Being such an experienced dog person, she should have known when accepting her job that the kennels were sh**t and unmanagable! And another point no offence but I wouldnt send my dog to a kennels that were in your word, sh**t!

If ‘Joyce’ did own some of the dogs and she was such an awful person who never paid Maria then why did she give her dogs to own in partnership? You wouldnt give the rights of a dog away to someone who owed you money would you? Let alone go on to breed from them….

Because ‘birds of a feather flock together’. Maria found people in the US who had as little regard for welfare as she did and while she got on well with Joyce that was all fine. Now they have fallen out no doubt they are both blaming each other claiming that they are the innocent injured party in this. Nothing to do with the dogs, just sniping at each other. On Maria’s website she made many mention initially of what a great life she had out there with her new friend Joyce. No mention of not getting paid. No mention of dogs suffering under Joyce’s care.
God knows what happened to the dogs they had there that havnt been found. The two Sloughis that didnt appear, when all these other dogs were taken were aged 10 and 5. According to the ASLA website, when they asked what happened to these two dogs Joyce said ‘she thought they died the previous year’. Thought they died? They lived on her property? How would she not know what happened to those dogs? Whether ASLA have followed up on that I dont know, I’m sure in their shoes I would not be happy with such a vague explanation but as they have supported her in the past for this type of thing maybe it is not of interest to them, however I shudder to think what really happened to those dogs. Did they just die in squalor from horrendous neglect?
Dogs that Maria owned in the UK mysteriously vanished when she moved to the US. She claims she rehomed them all but refused to say where to. None of these dogs have ever surfaced. She also has lost dogs at young ages, dogs that have no purpose for her anymore. She claims they are pts through ill health but knowing what healthy siblings at least 2 of her dogs had, I find it hard to believe that these dogs just suddenly died aged 5 at a point when litters were no longer wanted from them, and their show career was doing nothing. It’s criminal what she has been allowed to get away with, I really hope that neither her or Joyce are allowed to do this again.

OK, *Patsi* let’s for a moment assume what you say is true. If Joyce kept the kennels in such an appalling state and the dogs were in such poor condition (which has been confirmed by those who took them away – this wasnt a few days of hardship, these dogs had all the signs of long-term neglect), why did Maria (who apparently is such a saint and would not dream of keeping her dogs like this), not report it? Why stay on at that property? Why not get in the authorities to take the dogs away? If Joyce never paid her it would hardly be any loss to her to take this action, she had nothing to lose. So why did she not do something for these dogs? Any credible suggestions on that?
Dont tell me that bad karma is coming my way. I’ve done nothing but expose this woman and the lies she has told over in the UK. Giving these dogs a voice when Goodman and her ilk treat them like disposable commodities. Same deal in fact as what you are saying here. She told me on a list before we really *knew* each other that the RSPCA had made something out of nothing in respect to the breeders who had their dogs taken in 2002 as she’d seen them herself. These dogs who were kept in filthy squalid sheds, some top to tail in sheds piled high with their own muck, 3 of whom were so deformed at being kept that way they had to be euthanased. I assume at the time she stated this she had no idea that eventually this would all be made so public. She then still gave a dog to the co-breeder and let him suffer the same fate as the dogs before him (and sire yet more puppies into this situation). Any suggestions as to why she would do that?
Every time she is the innocent party, every time the sh*t hits the fan she supposedly has another heart attack (she is a miracle of modern science btw, the amount of heart attacks she seems to have had…), and people are cruel to expose what she has been up to yet again when she is at death’s door.
None of it washes with me or most of the people who have the misfortune to come into contact with this woman. Patsi, Ann, if you have been to Maria’s place and seen her dogs in the state they must have been in, then you too are to blame for not blowing the whistle on this. But as you are yet two more names that no-one has ever heard of and coincidentally emailing from the same source as Maria herself, forgive me for not taking anything you say too seriously.
As I said before, if well known, well RESPECTED members of the dog world want to post their support for Maria here I’d be interested to hear what they have to say. I’d also be surprised that anyone would put their neck on the line for her yet again but nevertheless if people are of the opinion that Maria is the victim in this I’d like to hear why that is.

The only people who screwed the dogs over were the people looking after them or not as the case may be! People shouldn’t blame others for their actions! I was one of the people helping in the welfare of some of the dogs left and think this is all so shameful.
Do you plan to continue to breed from the poor dogs you still have?
I would never pray bad luck on people so dont know why someone would say that, sometimes people just want answers and honesty but obviously they are never going to get that from you. From what I have seen alot of people put their trust (and money) in you and you have done anything but be straight with them.If help is ever wanted it is always given where animals are concerned, everyone else has cleared up your mess. This has all been very disappointing.

It is interesting that you claim that you were not paid for 2 years and yet can afford health care for yet another heart attack plus pay for an attorney! You’ve trotted that old rubbish out before, it doesnt work. Threatening legal action only works when you threaten people who are telling lies about you. Nobody here is telling lies, only you.
Furthermore, not once have you displayed any emotion or empathy for the dogs you claim were neglected by Joyce. Not once. Just trying to fight your way out of a corner by accusing everyone else of wrong doing. In fact whenever your association with these type of people is exposed you NEVER mention the dogs, it’s always accusations left right and centre at everyone else, trying to pass the buck. It never dawns on you to show any empathy for what these dogs go through – that in itself speaks volumes about the sort of person you are.
I admit I only remember the Sloughis you had, I dont know about your other breeds. These 4 dogs were yours. Are you going to deny that Mrs Moreau-Sipiere gave you 3 of those dogs? Are you going to deny that Sandra Munroe gave you a dog (while you were still in the UK in fact)? These 4 dogs were yours! What happened to Ullan and Bond? Bond was only 5 years old. All his siblings are fit and healthy dogs, did he die of neglect? Given that Ullan was 10 I guess with gross neglect he could have passed away. Care to shed any light on those 2 particular dogs? Care to deny that any of these were your dogs? Or will you give your usual sullen reply when questioned about dogs of yours that mysteriously vanish – it’s nobody else’s business but yours.
I may even have a shred of respect for you if you would even hold your hands up and take responsibility for some of this mess. I can accept that both you and Joyce were to blame, some of these dogs were yours, some were hers, some were jointly owned. The fact still remains that you both neglected these dogs over a long period of time, it shows no compassion for these dogs, and no attachment either. These dogs all have a soul, they are all individuals. They are not disposable commodities.
You may have been lied to and cheated, but it is only what you do to others, and in fact here too. Brazen lies about your involvement in this. I had a very bad time, you don’t think I know how it looks?? As for the Saunders case, I was NOTHING to do with them it was actually Sue Harper, I only advised and was told to keep out of it, and the dogs I saw were NOT in bad condition. Yes she did have a dog from me, but bear this in mind, other people in the UK had dogs from her too and saw nothing untoward.
I had never been to the place you described only the kennels at her home..nor had anyone it seems.
Oh, but guess what, was she convicted? No, in fact the RSPCA gave dogs back to her!
Onto more recent events, yes it is a tragic situation, do you think I really have no feeling for any of the animals..give it time to see when this crops up again. I don’t own thirty plus dogs, but I know someone who does.
As for ill health, and asking for help, oh I asked, oh but was told that it was going to be dealt with time and time again.
Then shut out of the situation, rich people do that..
The dogs are not guilty, they are unfortunately the victims of a situation that did get out of control, and it took that for people to get up and do something? Believe me…that’s what it took.
I am not making excuses for this, just stating facts which none of you know, because none of you lived it.
Do you know how it feels to ask someone for help and they tell you they can’t afford it when they own five cars, three houses?? And then threaten you with immigration! Come on, Joyce is NOT what she seems…anyway, any amount of me saying this makes no difference.
I am glad the dogs came out of the situation they are in, but you all forget all the rescue work I did when I was able, dogs out of various situations, God only knows I never thought I would be in this situation..ever!
As for Craigs question, no I won’t breed again, I cannot ever justify bringing more puppies into this world, nor would I want to. I see that many of the Ibizan people are breeding this year, at least fifteen or sixteen litters in a minority breed, that is their choice, nobody can stop that happening, but only hope that people can commit to seventeen years for each dog and nothing changes.
So, no I am not making excuses, I understand people are angry, upset, and I can’t turn back the clock.
But, again, none of you were there, you don’t know what happened, and certainly are just going to call me whatever you want, go ahead, it changes nothing…
I hope the next person that asks for help, gets it…

In closing I would like to say that if people do persist in what has now become harassment to me or any of my family, I will have to take matters further, as for affording an attorney, one of my puppy owners is one, and is very happy to help. As for health care, I have to pay that weekly, which will take years.
I hope this never ever happens to anyone, and I do believe that you are indeed Animal advocates and do it for the love of the animals, despite of how you have painted me, I do understand why you feel this way.

The problem is you tell so many lies Maria that you are forever contradicting yourself. Sue Harper was convicted and banned for life from keeping animals. Jacky Saunders was convicted of 27 counts of cruelty and neglect against her dogs in 2006 and out of the 19 dogs taken then (including the dog you gave her, which you told lies about too!), the court let her keep two dogs. Why they did that is beyond me but she was convicted nevertheless.
And you still didnt tell me about the Sloughis you had in the US. Always avoiding the harder direct questions. They were YOUR dogs, what happened to Bond and Ullan? How did they die? Why was no-one told about this. To be fair I am only assuming that Mrs Moreau-Sipiere was not told about Ullan as the ASLA website says they asked what had happened to him. I know that Mrs Munroe had no idea that Bond had passed away as I told her myself (without going into any detail about the rest of this stuff as I thought it would be too upsetting for her). Given that Mrs Moreau-Sipiere and Mrs Munroe were both good friends of yours at one time, that they both supported you – why did you not tell them that the dogs they had entrusted to you had died? You were publicly furious a couple of years ago when one of your own bred dogs died with someone else and you were not informed, said that it was discourteous not to let you know about this. Why did that not apply with dogs that you owned that were bred by others?
Saying you care about these dogs after being prompted sounds empty. You wouldnt have needed prompting if they meant anything to you.
I dont know Joyce St Giermaine. However the little I do know about this I would think she is also to blame and would hope that whoever started this blog and anyone else involved with this rescue operation would do what they can to ensure that she never breeds again either. Both of you are a disgrace to the dog breeding world. Just because you claim she owns more dogs than you do does not alter the fact that your dogs were also seriously neglected, you cant hide that fact when the rescue people have had to step in and seen the state these poor dogs were in. Whine, lie and blame others as you always do when cornered, I just hope that for once you are not lying about being finished with breeding. Hopefully enough people know enough about you now both in the US and the UK that they will not be stupid enough to get involved with you or Mrs Giermaine again.
To the person who started this blog, I hope you are able to get somewhere with exposing Mrs Giermaine too (and also finding out if she still has other dogs elsewhere that are being neglected). Not sure how or where you would get that information from and am not sure how your welfare organisations operate in cases like this (our RSPCA are exceedingly ineffectual most of the time), hopefully you or anyone else following this can do something positive in this instance.

Maria, I believe you should have ZERO dogs. There are still dogs suffering from what you did to them. There are 3 Ibizans in foster homes awaiting adoption. All 3 are from YOUR breeding. There is also still a Pharaoh waiting.
As far as Joyce St. Germaine, all I really know is she was suspended from AKC for record keeping issues (BTW, this includes Maria’s Shammy litter, there was insufficient records and AKC may revoke registration of the Shammy puppies due to paperwork issues, and the fact Maria disappeared).The AKC Rep. made no mention of number of dogs on Joyce’s property or quality of care.

I just want to clarify a mistake I made in the above post. The two dogs taken by ASLA were not both bred by Moreau-Sipiere, one was bred by her, the other an Intissars dog. Not that it makes much of a difference in the grand scale of things but I prefer to keep my posts accurate.

In response to Caroline Mathews RE: Joyce St Germaine. I think you are way out of line making accusations about Joyce. I have personally been to her home and seen all of her wonderfully taken care of dogs. She does not have very many dogs at all. She takes outstanding care of her animals. This can be verified by the local animal control that inspected her home and facilities and ALL the animals and she passed with flying colors. Joyce is NOT a collector. I know what a collector is and have been involved with rescuing pure bred dogs from collectors via National Breed Rescue. I have also seen the tremendous amount of veterinary bills that Joyce St Germaine incurred on RESCUING all the dogs that Maria Goodman ABANDONED, and all the bills for all the damage and repairs and clean up for the facility that Maria Goodman was entrusted to live at and run a business from. The amount is in the 10′s of thousands of dollars. I am finding it difficult to believe, that IF someone IS truly IN CRISIS, like Maria has claimed, that she herself did not call upon the dog community, friends, rescue organizations, or anyone, etc to intervene on behalf of the dogs. No, she did nothing. Maria comes on here like the pathetic sad sack she is expecting everyone to believe her vitriol. Maria is nothing more than a colenterate and a user and abuser. Maria Goodman and ilk, ABANDONED ALL THESE ANIMALS. Maria has been evading Joyce St Germaine, and Maria IS the person that called AKC on her, and Maria is the one that neglected ALL these dogs to the point of abuse.
If Maria Goodman or whatever she decides to call herself attempts at reinventing herself, well, there are too many people that know who she is and we are all waiting for Maria to show her face.
I know Maria Goodman, and I know Joyce St Germaine. I can tell you that Joyce is not the evil person. It is Maria Goodman or whatever her new name is.
Let me also state, that Joyce St Germaine has cleared up all issues with AKC and her personal home, facilities, and animals have been inspected by both AKC and Animal Control. Joyce’s creatures, facilities, and home passed with flying colors. So Caroline Mathews, you need to get a grip and only state facts to which you have first hand knowlegde of. There were many rescue organizations called in by Joyce and many people involved in the rescues of these dogs that MARIA GOODMAN abandoned and left in filth, disease, emaciation, and dehydration and left to die. Maria did not even leave a single identifying piece of information on any of the dogs she abandoned. On paper Joyce may have been a co-owner or co-breeder, but, was not into these dogs, it was all Maria. Joyce could not identify most of the dogs that Maria abandoned. It was Joyce St Germaine that rescued all these abandoned dogs and at her own expense paid for all these dogs immediate veterinary care. It was Joyce that paid for all the repairs and clean up to her kennel facility that Maria Goodman and ilk trashed and destroyed. It is so sad to see how these dogs suffered at the hands of Maria Goodman, and how so many people had to come and clean up the mess left behind by Maria Goodman and ilk. And yes, we know that Maria is packing a gun. We know that she is a danger to the people who she knows that know the truth about her. I guess you werent expecting someone to come on and tell it like it is.

Hey Lois, I dont know who you are, you could be Joyce herself – something Maria has already tried and failed at on this blog. I agree with everything you say about Maria Goodman, it’s a shame she seems to con everyone she comes across into thinking she’s anything but, as you say, a parasite.
However if Joyce is the person you portray please tell me this one thing. How did those dogs, who lived on Joyce’s property, get into such a horrendous condition due to neglect, without Joyce being aware of this?

Do you expect everyone to believe that ending on that note everyone believes now that Joyce is a saint. You have not even put your surname so we can identify who you are. I think alot of people who have read up on this will understand that both women are at fault here. Regardless of their petty squabbling and denials that these dogs didnt belong to either of them, the facts remain that both women lived at this property. Both women are therefore accountable for the horrendous neglect these dogs suffered. Even if people were to believe for one minute that this was all down to Maria, what stopped Joyce from phoning the authorities/rescues and asking them to take the dogs away before it got to this point? I am certainly not sticking up for Maria here, however I do believe that given the facts stated by people who have sorted out this mess, and the fact that people seem to know that some of these dogs were in joint ownership, BOTH women should never be allowed to breed or own dogs again.
Let me tell you, the same shit happened here in the UK with the Sloughi breeder friends of Maria. One owned up to the abuse and neglect of 30 odd Sloughis, convicted and banned. While her breeding partner took some of the dogs elsewhere and continued as before till the authorities here realised she still had 20 dogs in the same condition. People who breed together and co-own dogs ESPECIALLY on the same property cant fail to see how dogs are being kept.
Dont tell me to get a grip. I can see what has happened here, as can many other people. If you want to defend these people then go right ahead. In fact if you want to defend these type of people I’d question your suitability as an owner/breeder too.

Less than 2 years ago, MARIA GOODMAN signed on to several of Joyce’s dogs. Does that sound like Joyce screwing MARIA? Who has refused to sign off those pups registrations from the resulting litters that Joyce had in the attempt to screw Joyce, even when the AKC papers were left at MARIA GOODMAN’s hairdresser for her to sign off just recently? It is MARIA GOODMAN screwing Joyce. So since Joyce permitted MARIA GOODMAN to sign onto several dogs in the past 2 years, it would not appear to be that there was a non-working relationship in which MARIA GOODMAN was not being paid or being castigated or being screwed over. I have seen the electric bills that were paid by Joyce St Germaine for the place in which MARIA GOODMAN and ilk were living. In return, MARIA and ilk trashed and destroyed the house, the kennels and ruined the business. And most disturbing of all, ABANDONED 21 innocent dogs to just die in piles of feces, urine, covered in parasites, no food, no water, no identification, no AKC papers, no medical records, not a single thing. MARIA GOODMAN and ilk were seen driving off in a rental moving van but, she did not call anyone to come get the dogs, or notify anyone she was leaving, and instead left some note that stated she was handing over responsibility of the dogs to Joyce St Germaine and for her to do with them what she wants. Joyce did what she needed to do. The dogs were in deplorable condition and she sought immediate veterinary help and assistance from the different breed rescues. Yes, Joyce could have contacted a/c but they would have taken the dogs and euthanized all of them. Joyce gave them a second chance at life and paid dearly for it emotionally, financially and has been rumored about like she is the one that committed this atrocity. MARIA GOODMAN is a parasite who needs to have her green card revoked and kicked back to Europe, IMO.

Let me just say that I have been to Joyce’s property plenty of times, the first of which I did not know her in the least or anything about her, and that there was abosolutely nothing wrong. Parasite free, happy dogs- if anything, there were a number that were a little on the tubby side. Clean, no waste around, etc. I have seen every dog she owns and been in every room in her home and her whole yard and kennel. She does NOT own 30 dogs- not even close. Her dogs are beautiful and healthy and they sure are not starving eating their raw diet. I have seen the feeding room and all! Like I said if anything some are a bit on the well-padded side, though not nearly as fat as Maria. Joyce has 10-12 year old dogs with the teeth of a 6 month old puppy!!! So you people who know nothing better not slander. Joyce did not even live on the same property at the time Maria did this, and she took responsibility for these dogs and SAVED THEIR LIVES!
And No, I am Not Joyce! I am just a regular pet owner with a dog that sleeps in my bed.
Maybe Maria should be a little gracious and sign off on all the dogs, some of whom are companions no doubt. Why doesn’t she? Maybe because she’s a trashy spiteful fat old hag! Obviously she could afford enough makeup to paint herself up like a whore every day, and she can afford, apparently, to go to the hair dresser. Hell I don’t have healthcare in this country where I was born, but her fat ass does?

You do know that people who keep these dogs in terrible conditions dont let you see the dogs that are kept that way dont you?! People who take dogs into the show ring are not going to neglect the dogs in the way the dogs that were taken from this property. However breed enough dogs, those that are not sold or good enough to show will not get the sort of care you describe from people who have no regard for animal welfare.
I hope she is not sent back here to the UK. Although to be honest wherever she ends up she will still be able to own and breed dogs if she wants. That in itself is a crime, regardless of her location.

It is my understanding that Maria and Joyce lived at different addresses; although Joyce & her husband owned the kennel & home where Maria lived. I have idea how often the 2 saw each other. I think it is probable the 2 women kept their own groups of dogs at each property adding each others name when they thought useful. I’ve never heard the exact arrangement they made when Maria moved to the US.

I have seen Joyce’s pet dogs- spayed and neutered pets, and dogs that are TEN years old. They are not shown. Many of them cannot be shown because that twat Maria won’t sign off of them. So they are pets.
Joyce just spent god only knows to have a dog with one testicle neutered and the whole nine yards before giving the dog away to a loving pet home. Yeah, that sure sounds like someone who doesn’t give a shit about anything that is not a show dog, right? I have been all over her place. Where is she supposedly hiding these neglected dogs? Where do you live where you know so much more than I, who live right by her?
Joyce didn’t live on the property at the time that Maria did this, and Maria was trusted and hired to run it! I appreciate that you do not like Maria, but please don’t paint someone who did nothing but mourn the abuse of these dogs and pay out of pocket and risk her reputation and everything to save them. I KNOW one of the dogs personally now that Maria dumped. Thanks to JOYCE he is now SAFE and loved.
I’m just a pet lover, but I do know what a fat and happy dog looks like, and what a starved one looks like. The first time I showed up there was six months ago and there was NOTHING wrong. I saw the horses, the dogs, and two really cute fat house cats.

I dont care what you think of me, it wont stop me speaking my mind and giving my opinion. I’m happy to be corrected on the point that Joyce did not live on the same property as Maria. However the two women were in partnership for a long time. There are many people who have known Maria in the past who speak of how badly her dogs are treated. In fact old show photos of her dogs in the UK show dogs with no muscle tone, weak pasterns, and flat feet – dogs that look like they’ve never been exercised or kept properly. If this is the way she keeps her dogs, and Joyce co-owned dogs with her, I’ll ask again, how was it that Joyce did not see how these dogs were being kept? Why did she not keep tabs on the well being of these dogs? Maria was there for some time, there were regular updates on her website about her outings to shows with Joyce etc.
Carry on with your abuse if you like, it does nothing but make you look foolish. If you want to call me evil scum, what exactly do you think that changes? And if I’m evil scum purely for having an opinion on this then so be it.

Oh and yeah, they did not breed the dogs together, and they did not live on the same property- not even close. I have nothing against you Caroline and I don’t even know who anyone else posting here even is and I couldn’t care less about Maria’s breeding dogs and shows and breeds in general. But please, get your facts straight. I know it’s easy to misunderstand this situation, but Joyce is straight up and did nothing wrong. She has never had a reason to be gracious to a nobody pet owner like me, never mind was she obligated to show me her entire home and kennel because I randomly asked for a tour because it’s really neat there and I am into houses and decorating. Hell maybe if you visit her you would be surprised and she would tell you the real story and give you a tour too. That’s the kind of person she is. Kind and honest! If you are too then do some research or talk to her yourself. You apparently did not even know they didn’t even live in the same town. Now you do… keep reading. And keep spreading the word about MARIA because she is a dog abuser and as a rescue dog owner myself I do not have any tolerance for dog abusers.

The trouble is I had many people saying the same to me about Maria when she was in the UK. She was gracious, helpful and kind. I also had many people telling me some absolute horror stories about her. People can portray themselves however they wish to be seen. And as I mentioned above, photos of her dogs back then showed quite clearly that these dogs were not healthy looking animals.
To be honest I’d be more than happy to stand corrected on the point about Joyce. I dont know the woman. I am however still highly suspicious of anyone connected with Maria in any capacity as I find it hard to believe that regardless of where they lived, the state of these dogs was not picked up on.
I have to point out to you that I did not start this blog, incase you havnt read that already. However a link to it is posted on the front of the Sloughi website now, I do believe everyone should be warned against this woman. I’m not sure if it is possible for her to set up again given the US is so large but if all the relevant clubs are aware of the situation I would hope that this will help stop any plans she may have for the future. I do feel a little uneasy that she still has dogs with her.

Erm, why is Maria Goodman suddenly a buddy of mine? Where on earth have I stated any support for that woman? If it’s completely inconceivable to you that knowing Maria of old, I would not be deeply suspicious of anyone who was in a partnership with her then I cant change that. I have asked reasonable questions about Joyce, I have not stated anything as fact about her, I have merely questioned whether she has been checked out or not. I still believe that she must have had some idea of what has been going on here, and I am still entitled to my opinion!
I do have to say that calling Maria ‘mentally unstable’ (which she may be), is a little ironic given your torrent of exceedingly ‘mentally unstable’ torrents of abuse aimed at me! I have not resorted to name throwing as I think reasoned discussion should be conducted in an adult manner. You do nothing to help your argument by speaking to me in this way.

This is a first-hand account of my experience with the situation at the Florida kennel. Around Oct. I received a phone call from a friend here in Denver who told me she had heard a rumor that Maria Goodman had abandoned a bunch of dogs at her kennel, including 13 Ibizan Hounds. My dog had sired two dogs Maria had bought from their breeder Stephanie Nelson approximately 3 years prior. This rumor came with a contact number to Pam Haig(Pharoah rescue) I called Pam immediately, who had a pretty good handle on things, and a lot of information. I contacted Stephanie at once and we suspected the two dogs she had, had been left. I was also concerned as Maria had used the male to breed a litter with Shammy and thought some of those may have been left also. The last thing Stephanie and I said to each other was we needed to get those dogs the hell out of there. I also contacted two ICHUS board members that night and told them “we got trouble in Florida”. By the next morning, ICHUS Rescue was very aware of the dire circumstance of the dogs, and requested help in identifying the dogs. Stephanie and her husband decided to drive to Florida from Minnesota to get the two dogs we identified. 3000 miles people!
I exchanged emails with Maria from time to time about those dogs, and she was completely aware that we would always take either back-for any reason. I believed she was not happy with the boy, but she would tell me he has the most gorgeous head and ears and he was going to be along time growing up. Maria sent me pictures of the Shammy litter she bred, so it hadnt been that long before that we had corresponded. So, Maria had plenty opportunity to return either of those dogs-to either myself or Stephanie. She didn’t leave Shammy or any Shammy pups….
The dogs were in pretty bad condition and it didn’t happen in one or two weeks. The pasterns are so weak, I have to wonder have they ever stood on anything but concrete? No muscle condition-it’s the last thing to go people. A dog, especially an Ibizan, can be very thin-but still have good muscle tone-the body uses muscle as it’s last resort. These dogs were in very, very, poor condition, full of parasites, standing in urine and feces.
I’m in awe of their spirit-they have made incredible progress over the last several months. They both act like they never came out of a kennel-very undersocialized. The boy is a bit more outgoing. They are affectionate, loving dogs that did not deserve to be treated as they were.
I personally believe all the individuals that allowed these dogs to get to the condition they were in, are one as culpable as the other.
I cringe that Maria still has Ibizans-or any dogs for that matter. I would not have this opinion had Maria let me know she needed help with the dogs. I knew she had had health issues, but when we spoke personally on the phone about the newborn Shammy pups she never mentioned that her health was affecting her to the point she couldn’t breed dogs, take care of dogs, go to dog shows, etc.,… Not a mention of any hardships.
I am also aware that others did offer Maria assistance-why she didn’t take it or reach out to others in the Ibizan community-starting with myself and Stephanie, concerning the dogs she got from us is beyond me. But to be so stubborn or egotistical to let 20 dogs suffer the way they did is unconscionable.

Thank you for explaining this Lu and I admire the lengths you went to, to help out these dogs in their hour of need. The explanation of lack of muscle tone and weak pasterns is the same as how Maria’s dogs looked in the UK. I’m so pleased the dogs are all doing well, it can take some time to get there with dogs that have been through this type of experience but I know how humbling it can be to see them blossom once they are given the right care.
Maria would not have asked for help because, as her posts above show, she thinks she can lie her way out of any situation. However she forgets what she has said so often that most of these lies contradict each other. Maybe this time she really has given up on the dog world (we can live in hope) and so felt the consequences wouldnt affect her either way. Who knows.
I also believe that anyone who supported her in the US is, in part, to blame for this too.
I have had contact with someone who rescued one of the dogs, it is wonderful to see photos and here how he is also getting better with each day.

AKC is looking into Maria Goodman’s AKC records and the discrepancies and inconsistancies. Maria made statements to AKC implicating Joyce had discrepancies, which were minimal and cleared up, but, it was also a double edged sword since some of these same issues will make Maria not in compliance with AKC rules and regulations.
I met the human adopters of Harley. They are wonderful experienced sight hound people. I cant say who it is or where they live in fear that Maria will attempt to go after them. I believe Harley is the dog she has tattooed on her arm. Harley was in pretty rough shape but is blossoming now and put on weight.
Apparently there are those on this blog that do not understand the laws here in the US let alone the county that Maria Goodman was living in at the time of these poor dogs were being rescued. Some people on this blog are clearly misinformed but yet make horrible assumptions about innocent people and cant stand that we will not say who were are (because we happen to fear crazy people with guns) DUH!! and we dont have the luxury of living 4000-5000 miles away. There are some that are asking invasive and personal questions that frankly can only be answered by the people involved but yet, people still make statements castigating innocent people without checking their supposed facts and then dont even bother to contact the involved parties. As far as Joyce goes, she will never come on here and post anything let alone even read this crap. It is just a way to bait Joyce into a battle because Maria is the type like some others on here that relish and thrive on controversy and self grandizing and self importance and drama and making quippy assinine jabs at people that know the truth.
It is nice that some have come on and stated what they have actually witnessed and not some contrived opinion dictating what should and should not happen to innocent people that did what they felt was in the best interest of the dogs owing to the restrictions of the law. When there is a rescue of this magnitude, people dont exactly ask for an entire diatribe while dogs lives lay in the hands of the those that are trying to help. It is a very difficult situation to walk into the scene that was left for everyone else to clean up. Not just some 5 minute cleanup. Everyone involved just jumped right in to get the dogs situated some coming from 1000s of miles away. This was a crime against the dogs committed by Maria Goodman. However, it is a shame the authorities were not called, but, then again, 20 innocent lives looked into Joyce’s eyes asking her to do the right thing and let them live.
Fact: Joyce St Germaine DID NOT LIVE WITH MARIA GOODMAN for quite sometime.
FACT: Joyce entrusted Maria to run a boarding kennel business which also provided her a wonderful environment for her own dogs as well as lovely home to live in.
FACT: Since things appeared to be going well, Joyce did not see the need to run over to the kennel boarding facility to inspect Maria and the dogs. Joyce was, at the time, comfortable with leaving Maria in charge of the facility while Joyce and her husband were living at and rennovating a home several miles and towns away.
FACT: Maria was showing and winning with the dogs.
FACT: That gave assurances to Joyce that she did not need to check up on MARIA so Joyce could concentrate on the renovation and maintenance of her own dogs at her own home.
FACT: there was a falling out, what exactly that was, you would have to contact Joyce herself but it has something to do with the business figures not doing well, and Maria stating she was having health issues again,and her husband that would scream at clients for parking in the wrong spot or barking during agility, etc and Joyce offered to pay for whatever Maria needed ie: like a ticket for her and her son back to the UK so she could get free medical care vs having to pay here for heart surgery.
FACT: Maria threatened Joyce. That meant certain procedures had to be processed before Joyce could enter onto her own boarding/kennel property without retribution. It is called a law that she had to abide by.
FACT: Maria was asked to vacate the property. How that eviction notification was given, is something I cant answer.
FACT: Joyce is an attorney.
FACT: She is not a millionaire and has no new vehicles.
FACT: Maria vacated the premises.
FACT: The place was destroyed. 20 pure bred dogs including a Shar-pei were found in piles of feces, urine, with no food or water, covered in parasites, emaciated, dehydrated and the place was over run with rats, etc.
FACT: IF JOYCE HAD CALLED Animal Control …ALL THE DOGS WOULD HAVE BEEN SEIZED AND THEN BECAUSE OF THE A/C FACILITY AND RULES AND COUNTY REGULATIONS, ALL THE DOGS WOULD HAVE BEEN EUTHANIZED. In order for the dogs to have a second chance at life, Joyce took it upon herself to take these dogs to the veterinarian herself and get them updated on shots, worming, etc and any immediate veterinary care taken care of. So this shows lack of compassion?
FACT: Joyce was unable to accurately identify all the dogs as no identifiable information was left behind. The dogs all looked the same in all this horror and mahem.
FACT: Joyce contacted all the breed rescues to come and help and hopefully identify the dogs and get them back to their breeders if at all possible. Every sighthound rescue came as quickly as possible to help Joyce with these dogs except for Shar Pei rescue. So this shows lack of compassion?
FACT: Joyce’s residence was miles away and her husband was out of country on business so Joyce had to also maintain all her own animals as well as try to monitor construction men at her home at the same time she was overwhelmed by the horrific scene that she came to at her boarding/kennel facility.
FACT: Joyce acted as quickly as legally possibly to secure the health and well being of 20 neglected to the point of abused large breed dogs that were abandoned in addition to having to deal with the trashed home in which Maria’s numerous parrots destroyed the window sills, doors, walls leaving gaping holes everywhere, on top of all the filth and squaller. So this shows lack of compassion?
FACT: In the state of Florida, one can not just enter their own their property that you have given someone permission or rights to live at.

FACT: Joyce acted with the best interest of the dogs in mind.
FACT: Joyce had no idea the dogs were in these conditions until Maria Goodman and company vacated the property.

QUESTION: Is the above question quoting someone on this blog considered libel against Joyce of whom claim they does not know Joyce? Here is the definition of libel: written or oral defamatory statement or representation that conveys an unjustly unfavorable impression (1). b (1)a statement or representation published without just cause and tending to expose another to public contempt(2). (2)defamation of a person by written or representational means.
I am so over the persons on here condemning Joyce when ALL of this is Maria Goodman’s responsibility and fault.
Co-ownership in the state of Florida means diddilisquat. One can only do so much when another is not doing right by the dogs. We are a nation of laws. They must be followed. Some people can not and will not accept responsibility for their actions or lack there of and toss the blame on anyone else but themselves. And then, other people revel and roll with pleasure in taking down innocent people that did what they thought was the right and humane actions for the dogs. Sick just plain sick all at the expense of the dogs. Not one single person has asked for Joyce’s contact information so you can contact her yourselves. It just shows how little some people are continuing to question and cast aspersions on everyone BUT MARIA GOODMAN. Where were some of you in the UK, you had the opportunity to stop her then? What, everyone was afraid?? Well what the hell do you all think? That it is any different here???? In case you dont get it yet, Maria is not mentally stable, has made threats, and has a gun!

Just so you know, I knew nothing about Maria Goodman in the UK until she had left for the US. I asked exactly the same questions you ask now – why was nothing done about it while she was here. In fact I got the impression from pretty much everyone that it was indeed because they were afraid of her. I got as much abuse as you are giving me at the time for daring to suggest she was anything but a good and genuine person. As time has gone on the rose tinted specs have fallen from most of those people’s eyes (although I was amazed to hear recently that there are still some in one or two of her breeds that say she has done nothing wrong).
When I had DNA tests done to prove she had left a dog with the dreadful people in the UK and had lied about the fact I sent this information on to her Sloughi Club in the US (ASLA). I did not have any contacts in her other breeds although in hindsight I should have made the effort to find some. It may be to do with the fact that ASLA stood by her and said they thought she’d done nothing wrong. In fact where I stated before about the photos of her dogs looking dreadful at shows in the UK, Mrs Moreau-Sipiere of ASLA was judging at one of them. Clearly didnt see the dogs as I and many others could see them, and gave her 3 more. With that sort of support in the US, and other people willing to give her dogs, what could anyone do from the UK other than wait to see this to it’s inevitable conclusion.
I actually did take the time to find Joyce St Giermaine’s email address when this all happened. She ignored it.
The fact that you really believe that anyone takes any sort of delight in this is ridiculous. The fact that you are so heated and violent in your replies means I cant take anything you say too seriously. If Joyce has been seen by the relevant authorities and all of her dogs are well cared for I’ll be more than happy with that result – apart from anything else it means that there are no more dogs being ill treated (apart from those still with Maria). But I still think it’s a valid question given her close partnership with Maria for the past 4-5 years.
You actually had the opportunity to speak up for your friend Joyce in a reasoned and calm manner, put the facts as you state forward and tell people why they have made wrong assumptions. In fact I would have taken them more seriously if you had done just that. Attacking me or anyone else who wants to find out exactly what went on here as if it’s our fault this happened is irrational and unreasonable.

Well I think that everyone should just stop arguing and get on with trying to do what anyone can about the situation. At the end of the day this wicked woman has left devastation in more than one country! Lets all try and be constructive and work together to prevent this from happening again. Primarily we know that Maria Goodman has neglected many animals and conned alot of people, so she needs addressed first. We have to put personallitys aside and do what is right for the dogs and the ones this will happen to in the future unless something can be done NOW.
I understand there is alot of anger amongst you all.
From what I have read by the time it all came to light what she had been up to in the UK she was in the US, in the current breeds after self reinvention. And the same in the US when people found out it was too late. Stephanie Nelsons heartfelt post on this site really does inspire you to do something.
Lets try and work together as we obviously have a circle of good knowledgable people from a variety of different backgounds.
We need to unite to get those dogs out of there and get and get justice for the rest. Anyone who is in favour of this, reply and let me know your positive actions to help the situation…..

With the trail of destruction left behind her both in the UK and the US I do think people need to focus on this for sure.
I would hope that anyone with clout from her respective breed clubs should be discussing this with the AKC. Does anyone even know where she is at present? Can the relevant animal welfare organisation get involved (whatever the US equivalent is to the RSPCA?). I assume that the people who took these dogs away will have enough evidence via vet reports and photos to build a good case.
I understand that in the US the AKC is not the only registry for registering litters though. What about the other registries? Have all of them been informed?
The other thing that I have been wondering, after looking at the advert for the boarding kennels is that her son and ex-husband also had access to these dogs. I have no idea where Les is in this picture now, but is attention being paid to her son. The way people got around this problem here when caught out way back in the Sloughi incident was to transfer dog ownership so the dogs they wanted to keep were legally someone elses (potentially her sons) and therefore regardless of authorities taking action, she could still theoretically breed more litters and show more dogs in her son’s name. Just something else to consider.

I don’t know the solution- the dogs are okay now and that is what matters most to me. That said, if Maria still has dogs, I do think they should be removed from her care or at the very least, they should be checked upon routinely. I would think checking the son and the ex would be wise.
As far as I know, no one knows where Maria lives or with whom or anything currently.

I have been trying to stay out of this, but now that the kennels have been repeatedly referred to as sh*t and my business name has been brought into it. I feel the need to step up and say a few things! I will not attack or accept attacks from others. I will only clear up as much of the truth as I know!
1) The kennels are great! They smell wonderful, still need a little work, but with some TLC they’ll be awesome! We haven’t seen a single rat since Nov.
2)I pulled in the driveway @ the moment that the UHAUL was pulling out, I believe it was around 9am on Oct. 9th! Anyone who lives in Fl knows it’s still hella hot here in OCT. Joyce had to have contractors change all the door knobs and locks b/c someone had locked her out! The power had been turned off to the kennels due to nonpayment, yet somehow, the power to the house and the verizon fios (cable) was still turned on, hmmmm!
3) There were 21 dogs left in the dark, hot, stinky, humid building. Some of which I was told were champions, but I wouldn’t have known by the fact that they had staff infections, rat bites, were malnourished and dehydrated! There were also 2 beautiful hairless cats who had been left in their own filth to die I guess!
4) After Joyce took the time and money to do what she could w/ some of them, she contacted the rescues to help b/c neither of us wanted to see these poor babies die after all they had been thru. I didn’t agree at first. I told Joyce, we need to call animal control, but after doing my research, I realized all of them would have likely been put down. Including the sharpei that’s owners believed Maria had taken to a rescue in Ga a year previous. Imagine the shock to them when I called and asked, why is your dog still here after 2 yrs? Btw, he went to a great rescue right up the street to find a home after his skin infection cleared!
5) My belief is that, if this what breeding, showing, and AKC are all about, I want nothing to do w/ it! I’ve always done rescue and thats all I will ever do!
6) To answer Maria’s question, Joyce has put very little into fixing up this place, only into clean up! I don’t know where you get the idea that you should be paid and get healthcare to run a nonfuctional business, but my husband and I work day and night on this place and no we don’t expect anything from Tim or Joyce! If you live on the property for free, then you don’t get paid unless you work and allow customers on the property! No, I’m not scared of Maria b/c I’m a permitted gun owner too and my hubby loves venemous snakes! After we finished cleaning the property up, I called every customer in the database. 1 out 5 had some horror story of there dog coming home in terrible conditions, not being cared for. Dogs being crated in the office, customers were never allowed to see where their dogs were staying, they would get cussed out and yelled at. All this being said, how would one expect to make any money let alone a salary? We have done fairly well at rebuilding the reputation of this property and I challenge anyone of you to come out and take a tour and see how well cared for and loved everyone’s pets are! It’s amazing how great this business can go, if you just take the time to clean regularly and do prevenative maintenance!
7) I too have personally seen all of Joyce’s properties, she does not have 30 -60 dogs (I can’t keep up with all the #s people keep throwing out) she does gladly offer tours pretty regularly! AKC did come out and approve both her house and the kennels! Joyce does genuinely care for and love animals!
8)We are still finding dead dog carcasses on this property! If anyone cares to come dig them up and identify them, feel free! We have nothing to hide! I’m just glad that all the dogs that were here survived!
9) I have never heard of or seen Joyce show any interest in showing/breeding Ibizans or pharohs, so how were any of those hers?
10) Animal Control was called out to the kennels several times by customers I later talked to, btw as long as dogs have water, shelter and food, they won’t do anything. Animal Control was never allowed to see in certain other buildings which by the rancid odors and ridiculous conditions of under the house, who knows how many dogs died down there! It took an overflowing 27ft construction dumpster (Joyce paid for)to clean the office and the house out! And you wonder why there were ants climbing the walls in that beautiful house. Can we say feces and btw if you don’t pay the pest control guy, he won’t come back!
11) I am still working on earning the trust of some of those customers, one of which will never come back b/c her dog died of anemia (tics) and dehydration! Who does this to other people’s pets?! I would kill myself before allowing something like that to happen!
12) amazingly, when you constantly work , market, and properly care for kennels they should make enough money to pay their own bills! So, you don’t have to blame others.
13) if I were to have health problems and have that many pets, I would call up rescues to get them, do anything I could to help them find good homes, then move back home until I was well again! But obviously, I care about animals more than myself or I wouldn’t have taken on this place! I wish that something could be done to make people pay for how they mistreat animals, but 800,000 pets get euthanized in shelters in the US everyday and we do nothing about that! I hear atleast one story a day about a pet being thrown from a car window and rarely is anything done about that! I will never bring another dog or cat into this world until I know that something is being done about that 800,000! As for the people on this blog, I hope we all learn from this, that we should do unto others (including pets) as you would have done to you! We should always triple check our coowners/breeders and handlers before supporting them! I know a prize winning handler, here in the lovely state of FL that keeps upto 50 dogs on her truck any given day and most of them live in little boxes 24 hours/day unless they are being shown! And they are still importing dogs, btw 1/2 of the 50, she gets paid to handle for other people! I wish that AKC cared enough to inspect all the dogs! This is so sad and sick, all people care about anymore is reputation and money! Sounds like glorified “hoarding” to me! Well, Thankfully, I have 3 rescued dogs and 3 rescued cats! If anyone has anymore questions they think that I can answer, feel free to ask. I’m a painfully honest person and like I said before, I’ve got nothing to hide! I hope there was no confusion, I am Thankful everyday for those rescue groups who saved those pups lives and to Joyce for choosing to be my partner and giving my hubby and I this awesome opportunity!

You sound as if you have as much regard for the AKC as I do of the KC in the UK! It’s a shame that more is not done to ensure breeders do not get away with this sort of horror over and over again. As you can see by my former posts I am no fan of Maria, however due to the trouble we had in the UK with one breeder taking all the blame for the state of a number of Sloughis that were found, the other walking away enabling her to do the same all over again (which she did), I do find myself looking for information that clarifies that these dogs were Maria’s alone. And the answer to that question is that they were not.
As I dont know who you are or how long you have known Joyce, in answer to your point 9, she did breed and co-own Ibizans with Maria, so not sure where you are getting your information from? So either you have not known Joyce that long, or she has not been straight with you. I have yet to look into the Pharoah Hounds. So the trouble for me is that although I believe Maria to be responsible for some of what went on here, when statements like ‘I have never heard of or seen Joyce show any interest in showing/breeding Ibizans or pharohs, so how were any of those hers?’ ring alarm bells. There was even a photo on the front page of the Akhanubis website of Maria and Joyce standing with a show Ibizan Hound! This website and the Dogstars International website have been down since this happened. I can understand why Maria would have taken hers off line, but if Joyce had nothing to hide, why has hers disappeared too?
I have done this sort of research before, it takes time and patience (neither of which I have in abundance at the moment!), however in this age of the internet it is quite easy to scrape the surface on some of these situations and see that not all is as it seems. I am based in the UK so there is not much I can do personally in this situation. But I still dont believe that Joyce had nothing to do with this. We’ve had her version of events on this blog and Marias. Both vastly contradict each other. Maria has lied to me in the past so I cant say I always believe what she says. However Joyce has now lied (maybe through you or her friend Lois) about even being involved with these breeds. Something is peculiar about that because surely others in Ibizans know this is a lie and Joyce must know that too? You can see that at least 3 of the 11 Ibizans were bred by Maria and Joyce, it’s hard for me to know about the other 8 as I dont know their kennel names, I believe that at least two of those were Maria’s, one was her sons, but that still leaves 5 whose ownership is unknown (well to me anyway). What makes Maria’s part in neglecting these 3 dogs mentioned above 100% while Joyce is not responsible at all? I believe that anyone who breeds a litter should be responsible for those puppies their entire lives. Not only has Joyce said she doesnt even know the dogs (it has been stated that she claimed she didnt recognise any of the dogs in rescue), she must have lied about destroyed papers – wouldnt both women have access to the records of these puppies registration (although I’m happy to be put straight on that fact, I dont know the procedures involved, just assume if they are bred in partnership then both breeders should have access to the records). I actually find it quite abhorent that she could deny even knowing the dogs that she bred. The facts are in black and white.
I’d ask that those in the US do not simply feel that this is done and dusted just because Maria is now out of the picture so to speak. Both have now lied as far as I’m concerned (Maria to me and others previously on issues like this, Joyce in her denial of acknowledging her own dogs), which means that any or none of their respective version of events could be true. Dont make the same mistake that the people did in the UK over the terrible Sloughi situation. Almost another 30 dogs over here had more years of suffering just because it was an easy option to blame only one person. I will continue to look into this even if no-one else wants to, I think given the severity of this situation and the horrific state these dogs were found in, any of the people involved in this should be named and shamed. And hopefully other breeders might think twice about giving dogs to either of these women again.

I don’t know Joyce that well, I’ve only known her since Oct. But she prefers borzois and her borzois are in fantastic shape! I think she bought those dogs for Maria before her health issues arose. Because Maria had such great dogs and was such a good trainer @ that time, she didn’t think she need to check on them! By the time they realized what was going on, legally they couldn’t interfere, plus everyone was locked out! If Joyce could’ve gone in the kennels and removed all those dogs months prior,she would have! she nor I or anyone in her family could live with ourselves knowing we hurt any animals like that! Hope I cleared some more up for everyone!

Thanks for your reply. I would imagine that Joyce has not mentioned Ibizan’s or Pharoah’s in that short space of time, especially as this had already happened by then. The fact still remains that she is cited as co-owner and breeder of some of these dogs that ended up in rescue. If she had just bought Maria the dogs and had nothing to do with them then her name wouldnt have been mentioned anywhere. The fact still remains that she told people she recognised none of these dogs in rescue when in fact she is listed as being co-owner/breeder. I think we may have to agree to differ on this, for me it is very clear. And hugely upsetting to be honest, this is why so many dogs end up in rescue all over the world, because some breeders think of them as a disposable commodity. So unfortunately it doesnt clear anything up for me.
I feel from your posts that you really are someone who genuinely cares about dogs so if nothing else at least you are able to maybe keep an eye on things. Although as I have no idea where Joyce keeps her other dogs I dont know whether you will have access to them.
I still have some other stuff I want to read up on so may come back to you at some point regarding this.

This is the info that I’ve gotten, but Joyce refuses to take part in any of this blog. So, I got the info I could for you b/c you seem to truly care about the dogs and I know that Joyce is a good person and she doesn’t need to be attacked anymore. If I didnt think she was a good person, I wouldn’t be her partner! So, here’s what I got:
“For the record, the only reason I was involved with any of the Ibizans
was so that Maria could make up enough entries to create majors at the
dog shows, and the only reason that I “co-owned” any of them with her
was so that I could enter them in the “bred-by” class, thereby giving
her another way to enter enough of them to make a major for herself. I
quickly discovered that Ibizans are not my breed, and I’ve never owned
or co-owned a sloughi or pharaoh hound.
When she first came over to the US (and wasn’t crazy), her Ibizan bitch
(Lark) died from some awful disease, over which Maria had absolutely no control. In fact, she made many trips up and back to Gainesville to the veterinary school there to try to save her. She literally went into at
least $4,000 debt trying to save her but she died anyway. Lark was
going to help re-establish Maria in Ibizans over here. Then, her other
bitch developed cancer (through no fault of Maria’s) and she went into
further debt trying to save her, but she died as well.
Then, she got Shammy from a US breeder to basically start all over
again. I helped pay for Shammy (which is why I co-own her) and a dog
named “Chance,” who was returned to his owner with papers (because I
had the papers). Maria wanted the bloodlines. Then Shammy won BOB at
EUKANUBA and Westminster, but she came down with some terrible illness
and, again, Maria went into huge debt at Animal ER and the local vet.
She took Shammy home, kept her on an IV at home, nursed her around the
clock, and literally saved her life when everybody thought she would
die.
The Maria that I helped get into this country was not at all like what
she is today. I saw how she treated her animals back then, and she
always put their needs before her own. On behalf of the people who are
defending her, this “old” version is probably all that they know. If I
hadn’t seen it with my own eyes and experienced the way that she has
become over the last two years, I wouldn’t believe it either.
As for the dogs that she co-owns with me (toy fox terriers and borzoi),
she wanted to get her credentials as an all-breed AKC judge so it was
good for her to show involvement with breeds other than Ibizans or
Pharaohs. At the time that I put her name on these dogs, there was no
reason not to. Maria was eccentric (like most of the “dog people” I
know) but not mean and not crazy.”
What I know for a fact is that Joyce has left paperwork with the hairdresser they both use, to get their names of of some of these dogs. But Joyce is stuck with Maria on hers and hers on Maria’s. I know Joyce has been adopting out her dogs and I don’t think she intends on doing much else except with a certain few! She is not a collector and doesn’t want to be. I can not vouch for who she used to be, but I also can’t vouch for Maria since I didn’t know her! All I can do is help by sharing facts so no one feels misled! Once again, I hope that everyone has learned an important lesson from all of this.

If I had anything to do with showing I would be trying to get her banned so that she cant continue. I think you should urge Joyce to persue this avenue……People shouldnt be able to carry on. (Never mind still be responsible for dogs)

Re: Caroline’s last comment, I was here when the rescues showed up and I was here when Maria left! I had come here before and seen things too. By that point there was nothing anyone could do unless you happen to catch Maria on one of her good days! Joyce did recognize Chance/Cowboy, but how would Joyce recognize the others. She had not seen them since they were pups! And Maria had alot that looked alike, most of them were missing alot of their fur and were emaciatedtoo!
If it weren’t for some of the people from the rescues who had seen them fairly recently at shows, no one would have known who they were! Besides that, Joyce and I were a little overwhelmed, stressed, and
heartbroken. It was amazing that any of us could think straight in all of that mess!
I do guinuinely care for all animals and I see all of Joyce’s dogs about once a week! Most of them are tubby and happy! She loves her pets and they are not disposable to her!

Did Maria mention anything about the animals in kennel as she was leaving? Did Maria change the kennel locks too? Does anyone know how long the animals were locked in without food & water? Amazing to me any survived!
AKC can pull registrations on dogs owned by Maria, regardless of where she is hiding. That would take away Maria’s ability to show or register any more puppies with AKC.

I dont understand why people keep saying she is in hiding. The person who owns this blog has said she knows where she works. And it has also been mentioned that she goes to the same hairdresser as Joyce. How hard can it be to find her with this information readily available?
The other thing is that the horror this has generated given the severe neglect of these dogs, I’m not sure I understand why Joyce would not pursue this with the AKC. If she is as horrified as everyone else is, why not make sure this does not happen again. Or is it because she co-owns some of these dogs, that the AKC will penalise both her and Maria regardless of what version of events they are both telling? I guess it would be impossible to get the truth given the varying stories, and also the AKC probably are not interested in the whys and wherefores, it will come down to who is named as owner of the dogs on their registration papers. If I’m wrong, please correct me, this is supposition on my part as I dont know how this would pan out in such an event.

Can someone clarify the number of dogs taken? The initial report I saw back in October 09 said 22 dogs (16 Ibbys, 4 Pharoahs, 2 Sloughis). However Amy says there were 21 dogs and Lu says that there were only 13 Ibbys. So far there have been Stephanie Nelson’s two dogs identified (Paddy and Cushla), Deacon, Shay, CC and Harley. So potentially there were either 7 more Ibizans or 10 more. It might make it easier to work out who is missing if the number taken is clarified. I understand there were also 2 Sloughis and 4 Pharoahs which seems to be consistent. Amy – as you were there can you tell me how many Ibizans were actually there, or anyone else involved for that matter?

I have known Maria for about 6 months. She claims she is a millionaire and an attorney. She says her sister is a member of Parliament. She is a big time liar!
Oh and get this she went Cambridge and is diamond expert. Also she get royalties from her days as a backup singer for Rush or some other big rock band. Please keep this site up because you are helping people to find out that this person is not who she claims to be.
If anyone needs to find her she hangs out at the Anchor Inn a lot and at Mary Annes Hair Saloon both on Holmes Beach. I hear she was recently evicted from her dump on a dead end street in Holmes Beach and is now living off 43rd in Bradenton FL. Works at a we buy gold pawn shop in Bradenton I hear.

Im sure that the AKC would be able to ban her registrations etc for the good of future dogs no matter where she lives. Maybe someone should ask the question I would but I dont know who to contact or the technicalities surrounding this. Does anyone else know what happens to do this or if anyone has? I would do it is someone told me what to do.
There has to be a way of discouraging this behaviour in the future….

It seems comments have died down significantly on this board. So much that I considered taking the whole thing down. However, while the comments have slowed down, readership has remained high. I’m hopeful that somehow this blog could help the last of the dogs rescued from Maria find his forever home. The dog is named “Shay” is was bred/owned by Maria Goodman and rescued from the hell kennel. He has been in a foster home for 9 months now. You can see him on the rescue page at http://www.IHCUS.org

I think all of your dog lovers out there have no idea what Joyce and her shit husband did to maria and her son. no wages for two years never paid the billls Maria used all her saving to take care of the animals and when she left the kennel she was asked to leave because joyce’s shit husband thought he hed the kennel rented to two Dykes.Marai had two heart attacks because of the business. so all you should know Joyce is a muliti Millonaire

I have known Maria for about a year she is a completely untrustworthy person. Usually, if two or more people say someone is a liar they are a liar. Believe me when I say this woman is a pathological liar! If I get the chance to revoke her green card I will jump on it!

I am now homing (forever) a Pharaoh bitch named Shay from PHCA Rescue. About 10 years old in fair health, who gets along well with my other PH’s. She came from Delaware, Im in the Northeast. We believe she may have come from farther south? Anyone know of any litters out of FL, coming from Akhanubis? or info. on this sweet girl, I could never abandon? The story above is littered with excuses for an inexcusable horror. Any help?
